As part of it, South Central Railway(SCR) zone has undertaken upgradation of major stations across its jurisdiction. Now, the contract for undertaking up-gradation of Secunderabad railway station with world class facilities has been awarded and it is targeted to complete within three years period. The approximate cost for the execution of this project is ₹699 crores. Secunderabad station is the o­nly station across the SCR zone which is categorised as NSG1 station (Non suburban grade 1). Stations having ₹500 crore earnings/ 20 million passengers per annum come under NSG1. The station located in the capital city region of Telangana state has got prime importance. o­n an average around 200 trains are dealt at Secunderabad railway station with an average daily foot fall of 1.8 lakh passengers. Hyderabad: Union minister G Kishan Reddy announced the upgradation of Secunderabad Railway Station with a sanction of rupees 700 crores on Monday. “Secunderabad will soon turn out to be the best railway station in Telangana with modern infrastructure facilities and improved architectural design,” said Kishan reddy after visiting the station and reviewing the redevelopment plans. Speaking to the media, Kishan Reddy said, “Our plan is to provide ultra-modern facilities in the station for the passengers. The railway officials announced that work has been finalised on the foundation, pillars and temporary shelter, and the new temporary booking office is expected to be open later this month (May). Secunderabad Railway Station is located in the twin cities of Secunderabad-Hyderabad. Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Railway Station got a new temporary booking office with 10 booking counters on Tuesday. The temporary office is part of the plan to redevelop the railway station to offer world-class amenities with a modern touch. The booking office has been built near the exit gate, close to the parcel office near Gate No. 5 on the north side of the station. It will replace the existing nine counters near Gate No.3. Facilities like the sale of unreserved tickets, platform tickets, renewal of seasonal passes and enquiry counters will be available. Four automatic ticket vending machines have been installed, and these numbers will further increase. Passengers can also continue to book tickets using the UTS app. Prime Minister Narendra Modi set the foundation stone for the construction of a new railway station in April 2023. The new railway station building is likely to come up near the north side and will feature multilevel car parking and a two-level sky concourse.
