Semantic Technologies Compared

Introduction Semantic technologies don’t refer to a single technology, but rather to a side variety of tools and technologies that have to do with meaning. Some focus on structure, some on text, and some on intelligence. Understanding what sub-categories are out there can help you determine when to use each. Semantic Web vs. Semantic Technologies Introduction That Semantic Web technologies and semantic technologiesboth start with semantic is often a source of confusion. This short lesson clarifies the relationship between Semantic Web technologies and semantic technologies. Today’s Lesson se-man-tic (adj): Of or relating to meaning in language. We’ll start by defining what exactly we mean by semantic technologies and Semantic Web technologies. Then we’ll explore how they relate to one another. Semantic Technologies The term semantic technologies represents a fairly diverse family of technologies that have been in existence for a long time and seek to help derive meaning from information. Some examples of semantic technologies include natural language processing (NLP), data mining, artificial intelligence (AI), category tagging, and semantic search. You might think of the goal of semantic technologies as separating signal from noise. Some examples of existing semantic technologies being used today include: • Natural-language processing (NLP). NLP technologies attempt to process unstructured text content and extract the names, dates, organizations, events, etc. that are talk...

What is Semantic Technology?

If you’re asking yourself what is semantic technology? you are already, in fact, using semantics. The word “semantic” refers to meaning in language. Semantic technology leverages artificial intelligence to simulate how people understand language and process information. By approaching the automatic understanding of meanings, semantic technology overcomes the limits of other technologies. Why artificial intelligence? If we want a machine to understand our language, we have to go beyond the logic of the calculation that typically is associated with computers. Cognitive actions are the opposite of structured: everyday language can contain endless amounts and types of information, expressed in many different ways. More “intelligent” tools, such as overcome the limitations of other technologies, offering users easier interaction with machines and easier access to information. A computer can never fully substitute a human and semantic technology is not perfect; however, semantics leverages specific artificial intelligence algorithms to successfully perform specific cognitive tasks that approach the automatic understanding of meanings. This is what differentiates semantics from other technologies because it is able to simulate how people read, understand language and process information. Semantic search

Important Semantic search is in public preview under Currently in Azure Cognitive Search, "semantic search" is a collection of query-related capabilities that bring semantic relevance and language understanding to textual search results. This article is a high-level introduction to semantic search. The embedded video describes the feature, and the section at the end covers availability and pricing. Semantic search is a premium feature that's billed by usage. We recommend this article for background, but if you'd rather get started, follow these steps: • • • Create or modify queries to • Add a few more query properties to also What is semantic search? Semantic search is a collection of features that improve the quality of initial search results for text-based queries. When you enable it on your search service, semantic search extends the query execution pipeline in two ways: • First, it adds secondary ranking over an initial result set, promoting the most semantically relevant results to the top of the list. • Second, it extracts and returns captions and answers in the response, which you can render on a search page to improve the user's search experience. Although semantic search and vector search are closely related, this particular feature doesn't provide vector search. Feature Description Uses the context or semantic meaning of a query to compute a new relevance score over existing results. Extracts sentences and phrases from a document that best summarize the content, ...

Read more about author New technologies like ChatGPT are all the rage, as they aim to answer questions and provide information that makes our lives easier. Yet, the validity of the results generated has come under scrutiny and, as a result, much emphasis has been made on how organizations can get relevant and trustworthy data into the hands of users. Even with the vast amount of information available, achieving insights is challenging if the platforms used cannot make sense of the inquiry, understand the inferences of the question, identify where the information resides, and deliver the data required to answer the question. Data fabrics, which Semantic Technology Defined Semantic technology uses Semantic technology defines and links data on the Web or within an enterprise by developing languages to express rich, self-describing interrelations of data in a form that machines can process. As a result, these machines can process long strings of characters and index tons of data and then store, manage, and retrieve information based on meaning and logical relationships. More importantly, it helps show related facts instead of just matching words which helps enterprises infer relationships to discover smarter data, and extract knowledge from enormous sets of raw data in various formats and from various sources. This is particularly important because, according to The W3C developed open specifications for semantic technology for developers and has identified, via open-source dev...
