Shimoga election result 2023: Prior to the election, all big and small political parties, including the Indian National Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and JD(S) left no stone unturned to secure victory in the state Assembly polls in 2023. The state witnessed polling for all 224 assembly constituencies, including Shimoga Rural, Bhadravati, Shimoga, Tirthahalli, Shikaripura, Sorab, and Sagar of Shimoga district, on May 10, Wednesday. The counting of votes concluded today, i.e., May 13. Let’s take a look at the winners and losers in the district. Shimoga Rural Assembly constituency In the 2023 Assembly Election, JDS candidate Sharada Pooryanaik defeated BJP candidate KB Ashok Naik in Shimoga district’s Shimoga Rural Assembly constituency by 15,142 votes. Congress candidate Dr Srinivas Kariyanna secured third position. Shimoga Rural is constituency number 111 of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. It is one of the seven Assembly seats of Karnataka’s Shimoga district apart from Bhadravati, Shimoga, Tirthahalli, Shikaripura, Sorab, and Sagar. It is one of the eight Assembly seats that make up the Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency. The Shimoga Rural Assembly constituency is a Scheduled Castes (SCs) seat, i.e. it is not a general seat and is not reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs). List of Congress candidates from Shimoga city

Shivamogga: Congress has released the third list and announced the names of Congress candidates from Shimoga city, Shimoga rural and Shikaripura constituencies. A total of 43 candidates’ names have been published and HC Yogesh, a member of the corporation, has been elected for the Shimoga City Constituency, Dr. Srinivasa Karianna for the Rural Constituency and Goni Maltesh for Shikaripura. Although three days have passed since the nomination process started, both the national parties have not yet announced the names of the candidates for the three constituencies of Shimoga district in the third list.

BY Vijayendra, the son of former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa will contest from Shikaripura. In this year’s polls, the seat will see a new face in BJP candidate BY Vijayendra, the son of Yediyurappa. The decision to field Vijayendra from his father's constituency came after much drama and speculation. Several party workers had demanded that Vijayendra should contest from Varuna against Congress veteran Siddaramaiah. However, BJP's central leadership decided against the demands. Yediyurappa too dispelled the proposal. Meanwhile, Congress has fielded G.B. Malatesh from this seat. There are a total of 224 seats in Karnataka. It is the seventh-largest legislative assembly by strength. In the 2018 assembly polls, the state threw up a fractured mandate with BJP emerging as the single largest party with 104 seats. The Congress won 87 seats while the JD(S) won 30. The BJP managed to form the government only after several MLAs from the ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition joined the saffron party. The BJP faces anti-incumbency in a state where no party has won consecutive terms in over 20 years. The Congress is banking on BJP’s “incumbency burden” and is confident that the corruption charges against its opponent Basavaraj Bommai will stick. The election results will be declared on May 13.
