Thousands of people of the Tyagi community gathered in Gejha village of Gautam Bhuddha Nagar on Sunday to demand justice for The mahapanchayat, organised under the banner of Sanyukt Tyagi Swabhiman Morcha, made the “disproportionate action against Tyagi and his family” a matter of community’s pride. Supporters felicitated It was addressed by Mr. Tyagi’s wife Anu Tyagi, and six supporters of Mr. Tyagi, who were arrested by the Noida Police for entering into the society without permission, were felicitated during the meeting. Gejha happens to be the native village of Ms. Tyagi. Rashtriya Lok Dal and Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait’s) support added to the groundswell. A 14-point memorandum was given to Gautam Buddha Nagar District Magistrate Suhas L.Y. The demands included dropping the Gangster Act against Mr. Tyagi, withdrawing the case against the six youth of the community who were arrested from the Noida society, reconstruction of the structure brought down by the Noida Authority, return of impounded cars of Tyagi, suspending police officials who took Ms. Tyagi into custody for interrogation and dismissing local MP and former Minister Mahesh Sharma from the party. The 34-year-old politician was arrested for assaulting and abusing a woman resident of his society in Noida on August 5. A video of the incident had gone viral on social media. He was arrested from Meerut on August 9 after being at large for four days following the incident. Tyagi was booked under the UP Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act post his arrest in the matter by the Noida police on August 9. Shrikant Tyagi spoke about his arrest with the press upon returning home and expressed regrets about using could language during the scuffle. However, he also went on to brand the action taken against him as 'disproportionate'. "The Gangster Act was applied, so many labels were applied against me and a reward was announced for my arrest… am I a Naxal or a terrorist for all this to be done?" Shrikant Tyagi said.

The woman had objected to the plantation of some trees by Tyagi, citing violation of rules, even as he claimed he was within his rights to do so. The police had detained four people, including his wife, for questioning. Moreover, five vehicles of Tyagi were also seized by the police. One of his cars registered at Lucknow Regional Transport Office had the sticker of the Uttar Pradesh government written on it. The police will also investigate the misuse of the symbol. By India Today Web Desk: The Noida police Tuesday arrested Shrikant Tyagi, who identifies himself on social media as a national executive member of the BJP's Kisan Morcha, along with three others in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district. The police got a tip off on Tyagi's location as he was constantly trying to get in touch with his wife and lawyer. He had reached Saharanpur on Monday night. On Tuesday morning, he arrived in Meerut where he got arrested. He had decided to surrender before the court on Wednesday after meeting his close ones. His arrest comes a day after bulldozers tore down the illegal construction outside his house at the Grand Omaxe housing society in Noida’s Sector-93B. Earlier in the day, his wife was taken into police custody again for questioning. The police picked up his wife from Srikant's flat around 6 am on Tuesday. The Noida Police had taken her into custody on Friday and questioned her for more than 24 hours. Police have also taken Srikant's relatives into custody and are questioning them. On Monday, the police arrested six of his supporters for entering the Grand Omaxe society late Sunday evening without being permitted entry and asking about the address of the woman who was manhandled by Tyagi. Tyagi was booked by the Noida Police for allegedly abusing and assaulting a woman following a spat on the premises of Grand Omaxe in Noida Sector 93B. Tyagi, following which he was on the run.

A mahapanchayat being organised by Tyagi community members is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 21 August, in Noida's Gejha village in support of the family of Lakhs of people are estimated to show up for the event, the announcement of which was made by Mangeram Tyagi of the Sanyukt Tyagi Swabhiman Morcha. While speaking to the press, he said that strict action should be taken against the police officials who have done injustice to Shrikant Tyagi's family members, especially his wife Anu Tyagi. He also demanded that the role of political leaders involved in the case must be investigated.
