Indian Railways starts jungle tea toy train safari on Darjeeling Himalayan route

On this journey, tourists are able to witness the breathtaking views of hills as well as of the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary. As per the reports, the railway authority is also geared up to open a DHR heritage photo gallery at Sukna station; tourists can also enjoy complimentary cups of Darjeeling tea at Rongtong station. It will be a 3-hour journey and tourists can enjoy their journey back to Siliguri junction again after reaching Rongtong station. Referring to this, Sanjay Chilwarwar, ADRM, Katihar division of Northeast Frontier Railway stated that they have already started regular journeys, whereas the tea toy train safari comes equipped with all the necessary amenities to facilitate the journey of their guests. He added that since tourism is the only industry in this region, they have decided to operate maximum toy trains on the said route to attract more and more tourists in the region, and promote the tourism industry. • • • NF Railway introduces toy-train service from Siliguri to Rongtong GANGTOK,: Northeast Frontier Railway has recently introduced ‘Steam Jungle Tea Safari’, a toy train service between Siliguri junction and Rongtong station of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. This steam-hauled toy-train service was started to fulfil the demands of tourists and to also promote the local tourism sector, the NFR said. The Steam Jungle Tea Safari has been planned to run on regular basis depending on demand. It is provided with the facilities of Vistadome coach and hauled by heritage steam engine. The toy train travels through scenic beauty of the tea gardens apart from breath-taking views of lower Himalayan hills. Tourists can enjoy the on-train services while making celebrations by riding through the unique Steam Jungle Tea Safari. There are provisions of 14 passengers in the Vistadome coach. However, additional coach can also be attached depending on demands, the NFR added. The train (No. 52556) provides up-down evening services leaving from Siliguri junction at 2:45 pm to reach Rongtong at 4: 20 pm. In return journey, the train departs from Rongtong at 4:40 pm to reach Siliguri junction at 6:05 pm. The train has stoppage at Sukna station during both way journey.
