James: "Forget Bazball its the Kiwis making test great incredible yet again!" Indeed they have and it has been a privilege to witness it. Cheers to everyone for joining an absolute party. Hope to see you again for the Wellington Test. For now, on behalf of Madushka Balasuriya and Thilak Rama, I'm Ekanth signing off. The day started after a delay of over four hours due to rain. Latham was steady while he was in. Nicholls got a start too but fell. Then the big stand. A 142 from 157 between Mitchell and Williamson. Williamson struggled while starting but took his time to go up the gears. Mitchell was brave, he created luck that both batters rode. Sri Lanka went for bouncers and yorkers late in the piece. Asitha was landing jaffas at will. It led to a flurry of wickets but Williamson saw it through to the end. 7:44pm: Steady the ship, fly the plane, roll the cart, roll Titanic... Is there anything KW can't do?! Word of appreciation for Sri Lanka's performance too, they fought valiantly and stayed in the game till the last over. But it was a case of fortune favouring Williamson and Mitchell's skill and bravery. Sri Lanka used just four bowlers. The spinner, Jayasuriya, got wickets but went for runs. The wides given when he went down leg could create many a discussion. Dickwella dropping Williamson too. Fernando's brilliance needs acknowledging. But it's all Williamson, dude's beyond us mortals' comprehensions. Pull beaten, keeper throws to the bowler. Direct hit from Asitha at ...

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka, 1st Test, Sri Lanka tour New Zealand, 2023

So, that's it from us! Games like these are a perfect testimony that Test cricket can produce thrilling contests. NZ won the crunch moments in this game and that is all it mattered eventually. SL are now effectively out of the race for the WTC final. They gave their best but couldn't handle the pressure situations well enough. Join us for the 2nd and final Test which will begin on 17th March in Wellington. Till then, goodye and cheers! SL held the upper hand in most parts of the game but they gave it away when it really mattered. They batted well to post a competitive total on the board with good contributions from the top and middle order. But another masterclass from Williamson and an outstanding innings from Mitchell ensured NZ went past the finish line. Mitchell departed against the run of play but not before playing an outstanding knock, bringing the run rate under achievable terms. SL did have a small fightback from there as they chipped away at the wickets but Williamson was determined and kept the scoreboard ticking. He went past his century and was unstoppable. The game went down to the wire as 8 was needed off the last over. He scored a crucial boundary and that meant that NZ were in touching distance with 1 needed off 2. A dot ball followed and there was drama in the final ball but Will...
