Rani Lakshmi Bai, the Rani of Jhansi was born on 19th November 1835 at Kashi. She studied self-defence, horsemanship & archery. Rani Lakshmi Bai was married to King of Jhansi Gangadhar Rao and became the queen of Jhansi. In 1851, unfortunately, their child died at the early age of 4 months. After this tragedy, they adopted Anand Rao and Named Damodar Rao. Later Raja Gangadhar Rao also died. Let me start this speech by thanking you all for honouring me with this valuable opportunity. Rani Lakshmi Bai is an unforgettable warrior in the history of India. She is popularly known as Rani of Jhansi. Earlier, she was known as Manu Bai or Manikarnika. She was born like a princess but died like a warrior. We will never forget this exceptional figure who taught us the real meaning of bravery and Rani Lakshmi Bai was born on 19 th November 1828 to Moropant Tambe and Bhagirathi Tambe at Kashi (Varanasi). She was brought up by her father in the palace of Peshwa Baji Rao. Since her childhood, she was very fond of learning horse riding, sword fighting, Shooting and martial arts. She became the queen of Jhansi after she married the King of Jhansi. After the death of the Maharaja, the British government annexed her Jhansi to its territory. Then she decided to get it back and she fought against British rule. In the battle, she fought bravely and with gallantry heroism. She was wounded by one of the English horsemen and collapsed. She was a great freedom fighter and the heroine of the first war of Indian Freedom. She is known for her stern resistance to British rule. Lakshmibai was born on 19 th November 1828 in Varanasi into a Brahmin family and was named Manirkarna or Manu (nickname) .Her parents, Moropant Tambe(father) and Bhagirathibai Tambe(mother) came from Maharashtra. Her mother died when she was four and her father worked for a court in Peshawar of Bithoor district. ADVERTISEMENTS: Later on he moved to the court of Raja Gangadhar Rao, the Maharaja of Jhansi, when Manu was 13. A year later, she was married to Gangadhar Rao at the age of 14 and was named Lakshmibai. Lakshmibai’s child died at 4 months and Damodar Rao was the adopted child, but the British rulers failed to accept them as legal heir.
