The country’s leading stock exchange, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India, publishes in advance a list of public holidays on which stock market trading is not observed. Besides these market holidays, trading in NSE remains closed on Saturdays and Sundays of the week. This year, NSE has altogether 24 holidays; of which, 16 trading holidays fall during weekdays and eight during weekends. When someone says that today is a market holiday, they usually mean that trading on the stock exchanges including the NSE is closed for that particular day. Stock market holidays in October 2022: On account of Diwali festival across the country, there will be no action on Dalal Street during its scheduled timing of 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM. Trading at National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain suspended during its regular timings. However, the market will open for one hour from 6:15 PM to 7:15 PM for Muhurat trading session. Trading in Commodity Derivatives Segment will also remain closed during its scheduled morning and evening session. However, it will also open for an hour for Muhurat trading session from 6:15 PM to 7:15 PM. As per the list of stock market holidays 2022, this is second second stock market holiday in October. On 5th October 2022, trading at BSE and NSE was closed for Dussehra festival. Next stock market holiday falls on 26th October 2022 for Diwali Balipratipada. In 2022, there are 16 stock market holidays and after Diwali 2022, there will be two more stock market holidays falling on 26th October 2022 and 8th November 2022. On 26th October, stock market is closed for Diwali Balipratipada whereas on 8th November 2022, there will no action on NSE and BSE for Gurunanak Jayanti celebration. Stock market holidays in October 2022: Trading at BSE and NSE will remain closed on three days due to the festival holidays. As per the list of stock market holidays, trading on Dalal Street will remain shut on 5th October 2022 for Dussehra festival whereas it will remain closed on 24th October 2022 and 26th October 2022 for Diwali and Diwali Balipratiprada celebrations respectively. However, Muhurat trading will take place on 24th October 2022. Timing and other details in regard to Muhurat trading for 2022 will be subsequently notified by Indian bourses. In Commodity module, trading at Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed in first half on all three stock market holidays whereas trading will take place in second half from 5 PM on 5th October and 26th October. This means, trading will remain closed on both session in commodity module or on MCX on 24th October 2022.
