Sunflower drawing

Learning how to draw a sunflower doesn’t mean that you have to have just one centered in the middle of the paper, all by itself. That doesn’t make for a very exciting composition. You might want to consider Vincent Van Gogh, who I think made about 17 different versions of his sunflower paintings, all with different arrangements. Instead of arranging them in a vase though, students can experiment with their own layout by balancing a simple large, medium and small one. And if some of them are so large that they go off the page a bit, that makes things look even a little more lifelike too! Time needed: 1 hour. Draw a Sunflower • Start the center of a large flower. • Add a row of petals around it. • Add tips of more petals. • Draw the stem and leaves. • Start center of medium flower. • Add a row of petals around it. • Draw leaf, start small flower. • Add more petals. • Trace with marker and color.
