Sunrisers Hyderabad had shelled out ₹10.75 crore to buy West Indies wicketkeeper batter Nicholas Pooran on Day 1 of the IPL 2022 Auction. The explosive batter ended up as the team's most expensive buy after two days of action in Bengaluru. The Hyderabad think tank started the second day by snapping up Aiden Markram for ₹2.60 crore. Sunrisers Hyderabad are yet to get their hands on the trophy after the 2016 edition andthey have over the years been quite consistent when it comes to making the playoffs. However, it looked a different story last year and there have been some some considerable changes in their squad starting from the players released and retentions ahead of the Sunrisers Hyderabad spent INR 67.90 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction last year while they retained Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad and Umran Malik for a total of INR 22 crore ahead of the auction. They were left with INR 10 lakh in the purse after the auction, having picked 23 players in their squad. Williamson led the franchise in IPL 2022 and they did not have the best of seasons, having finished eighth in the points table.
