dua

Right after starting salat, i.e, after Niah (intention) and Takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar الله أكبر), you can say The Opening Du'aa, which is Sunnah, i.e, it's not obligatory, but is recommended to say. I.e, if you don't say it then your salat is still correct and there's nothing wrong. However, scholars differ in what the Opening Du'aa is: • Shafei Mathhab scholars say that the Opening Du'aa is the following: I turn my face in complete devotion to One Who is the Originator of the heaven and the earth and I am not of the polytheists. Verily my prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the worlds; There is no partner with Him and this is what I have been commanded (to profess and bel...

The Meaning of Surah 01 Al

Surah al-Fati¿ah (Arabic: ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿) is the first chapter (surah) of the Quran. Its seven verses (ayat) are a prayer for the guidance, lordship and mercy of God. This chapter has an essential role in Islamic prayer (salat). The primary literal meaning of the expression "al-Fati¿ah" is "The Opener," which could refer to this Surah being "the opener of the Book" (Fati¿at al-kitab), to its being the first Surah recited in full in every prayer cycle (rak¿ah), or to the manner in which it serves as an opening for many functions in everyday Islamic life. Some Muslims interpret it as a reference to an implied ability of the Surah to open a person to faith in God. The name al-Fati¿ah ("the Opener or the opening") is due to the subject-matter of the surah. Fati¿ah is that which opens a subject or a book or any other thing. In other words, a sort of preface. The word ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ came from the root word ¿¿¿ which means to open, explain, disclose, keys of treasure etc. That means sura Al-Fatiha is the summary of the whole Quran. That is why we recite another Ayat or sura along with Fatiha in our prayers. That is, sura Al-Fatiha is paired with rest of the whole Quran. It is also called Umm Al-Kitab ("the Mother of the Book") and Umm Al-Quran ("the Mother of the Quran"); Sab'a al Mathani ("Seven repeated [verses]", an appellation taken from verse 15:87 of the Quran); Al-Hamd ("praise"), because a hadith narrates Muhammad as having said that GOD says: "The prayer [al-F¿ti¿ah] is d...

Sura Al

The grammar of surah al-FatiHah http://www.quran.gov.bd/home/selectSura.html This is an explanation of the grammar of surah al-FatiHah for English speakers. The aim of this article is to give the reader a more detailed understanding of the meaning of what they are reciting when praying, and hence become more reflective in their salah inshAllah. Imam Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: "There is no prayer without understanding and there is no recitation without reflection." Imam as-Suyuti in his book ‘Itqan fi ulum il-Quran' wrote: "It is sunnah to read with reflection and understanding, as it is the greatest purpose and the most important thing to be sought. With it the hearts (Sudoor) are gladdened and the minds (qulub) enlightened." Allah سبحانه وتعالى says: كِتَابٌ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ "(This is) a Book which We have sent down to you, full of blessings that they may ponder over its Verses, and that men of understanding may remember." [Saad, 38:29] And He سبحانه وتعالى said: أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ "Do they not then consider the Qur'ân carefully" The description of that is that his mind (qalb) is busy with thinking about the meaning of what he is saying, so he knows the meaning of every ayah and he contemplates the commands and prohibitions and resolves to implement them. If he was previously deficient, then he asks forgiveness. If he comes across an ayah of raHmah, he rejoices and asks, or punishment...
