Watch: Suyash Sharma, KKR's Untested Mystery Spinner, Leaves Batters 'Clueless'

Suyash Sharma, a 19-year-old mystery spinner without a professional appearance to his name in any format, was sensationally named in the It was later confirmed that Sharma had not actually been included in the KKR XI, but would rather be used as their Impact Player in the second innings of the game after RCB captain Faf du Plessis opted to bat first at the toss. Sharma is a very much a rookie, not just in the IPL but in professional cricket in general. Sharma has never even played a domestic T20 game, nor has he made a first-class appearance. There is not much footage of Sharma online, but KKR have posted a video of Sharma bowling in a game that did not carry professional T20 or List A status on their YouTube channel. KKR lost their opening game of the 2023 IPL, falling short by seven runs on DLS against Punjab Kings. Despite using an Impact Player later in the game, KKR only used five bowling options as all of Tim Southee, Shardul Thakur and Sunil Narine went at 10 or more runs per over. Using Sharma as an Impact Player – rather than Venkatesh Iyer, a batting all-rounder who does not always bowl – should in theory lend KKR more flexibility in the field. KKR failed to qualify for the play-offs in the 2022 IPL and their start to the 2023 campaign has been hampered by availability issues with both captain Shreyas Iyer and Shakib Al Hasan ruled out of the tournament. England opener Jason Roy is a recent addition to the squad.

KKR’s head coach Chandrakant Pandit hailed the debutant for his exemplary performance against RCB. “ We saw him in the trial matches and were extremely happy with the way he bowled. He’s quick through the air and difficult to pick. He’s inexperienced but shows a very good attitude” the head coach said.

Who is Suyash Sharma, KKR's new mystery spinner who has impressed one and all

Historically, Kolkata Knight Riders have shown a tendency to unearth a new player with a mystery element to him. The franchise have played key roles in the development of bowlers like Sunil Narine and Kuldeep Yadav and helped both those bowlers and others get noticed on the global stage. The franchise now seems to have done something similar with 19-year-old Delhi leg-spinner Suyash Sharma, who with his headband and awkward-looking action has caught the attention of many. On Sunday, Suyash grabbed more eyeballs when he dismissed Gujarat Titans' Abhinav Manohar with a stunning googly that found him praise on social media. WHAT. A. Suyash Sharma, Age, Profile, Net Worth & IPL career

Overview Delhi is known for producing phenomenal cricket talent, and the latest to rise through the ranks is Suyash Sharma. The youngster from Bhajanpura in East Delhi has no first-class experience or any ‘Godfather’ in cricket. Suyash, who hails from a lower middle-class background, made the cut to the cash-rich league on the basis of determination and hard work. Cricket brief Suyash Sharma is a student of former Delhi spinner Suresh Batra and has played cricket at club level. With club-level cricket not providing enough finances, the youngster really struggled for his survival. He suffered a major setback when his coach, Batra, succumbed to COVID-19. During his struggle in cricket, the leg spinner suffered another major setback when his father detected cancer. However, Mumbai Indians manager (and talent scout) Rahul Sanghvi came to his rescue and helped with his father’s treatment. Despite all the problems at a personal level, Suyash, under the guidance of coach Randhir Singh, continued to work hard and got himself into a Madras club known for nurturing spinners. The leg-break bowler polished his skills at the club, and his ability to bowl leg-break and googly without changing action caught everyone by surprise. Suyash’s success at club cricket saw him earn a call-up to the Delhi U-25 team and the IPL trials. Both the Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders had their eyes set on the youngster after he had successfully cleared the trial. With an IPL contract still a long...

Suyash Sharma makes a memorable debut

Kolkata: It was a memorable debut for teen leg-spinner Suyash Sharama at the Eden Gradens here on Thursday night. The rookie from Delhi picked up 3/30 for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from his four overs against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). KKR coach Chandrakant Pandit was happy with Suyash's "fighting attitude", saying it was very difficult for the rival batters to pick the 19-year-old. KKR captain Nitish Rana also praised Suyash and said plan was to put pressure on the rival batters in the middle overs. "We had always planned not to give RCB batters pace in the middle overs. Suyash, playing his first match, bowled brilliant balls. Not even we have got to know him so far. He backs himself. It was always our plan to add him if we needed a third spinner," added Rana.
