Septran DS Tablet is an antibiotic composed of Trimethoprim and Sulfamethoxazole. It is used in children (above 12 years of age) and adults for treating various bacterial infections. It works by preventing the growth of bacteria, thus reducing the infection. Septran DS Tablet can cause side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, etc. Most of these side effects are temporary and subside on their own. Consult your doctor if these side effects persist or become worse. Septran DS Tablet is usually taken with food or as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will determine the dose and duration of treatment depending on your condition. Try taking it at the same time every day to maintain a constant level of medicine in your body. Do not stop taking Septran DS Tablet without consulting your doctor as it may lead to re-infection that would be difficult to treat. Septran DS Tablet is not recommended for use if you are allergic to it, or have severe liver/kidney problems. Inform your doctor about your current medications or any other medical conditions that you have before starting the treatment. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding. Porphyria is a condition that occurs due to a buildup of a chemical called porphyrin in your body. It affects the production of heme which transports oxygen in your blood. To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of Septra and other antibacterial drugs, Septra should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria. Septra Description Septra (trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole) is a synthetic antibacterial combination product. Each Septra Tablet contains 80 mg trimethoprim and 400 mg sulfamethoxazole and the inactive ingredients docusate sodium (0.4 mg per tablet), FD&C Red No. 40, magnesium stearate, povidone, and sodium starch glycolate. Each Septra DS (double strength) Tablet contains 160 mg trimethoprim and 800 mg sulfamethoxazole and the inactive ingredients docusate sodium (0.8 mg per tablet), FD&C Red No. 40, magnesium stearate, povidone, and sodium starch glycolate. Each teaspoonful (5 mL) of Septra Suspension contains 40 mg trimethoprim and 200 mg sulfamethoxazole and the inactive ingredients alcohol 0.26%, methylparaben 0.1% and sodium benzoate 0.1% (added as preservatives), carboxymethylcellulose sodium, citric acid, FD&C Red No. 40 and Yellow No. 6, flavor, glycerin, microcrystalline cellulose, polysorbate 80, saccharin sodium, and sorbitol. SEPTRAN DS TABLET 10'S

INTRODUCTION SEPTRAN DS is a combination of Sulphamethoxazole and Trimethoprim which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to treat and prevent lung infections (pneumonia or Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia) caused by a bacteria called Pneumocystis jirovecii and toxoplasmosis (infection with the Toxoplasma gondii parasite). It can also be used to treat urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections (such as bronchitis), ear infections (such as otitis media) and an infection called nocardiosis which can affect the lungs, skin and brain. SEPTRAN DS is suitable for use both in adults and in adolescents (aged 12 years or above). Take SEPTRAN DS for the stipulated duration as instructed by your doctor even if you feel better during the midway of the therapy to achieve better results. Failing to complete the full course of the therapy or skipping doses in between the therapy may not result in adequate infection control. Before taking SEPTRAN DS inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have asthma, any allergic conditions, genetic disorders, blood-related disorders, folic acid deficiency, high blood potassium levels or if you are malnourished as a precaution.
