The GO is passed and it is likely to affect the subsidy of up to 100 units free if consumers fail to link their Aadhaar number however the action is yet to be confirmed by the TANGEDCO officials. Mr. Rajesh Lakhoni, the chairman of TANGEDCO has urged all consumers to acknowledge this move and carry out the Aadhaar linking process to their respective TNEB bill connection as soon as possible. Around 85,000 consumers have already linked their Aadhaar cards online already and there are more to come. TNEB customers as requested to look at this GO as a responsibility as opposed to mandatory or compulsion. Chennai: After reports about the loss of Aadhaar data of some electricity consumers despite them having received confirmation SMS about linking their service connections with Aadhaar, Tangedco has made a provision for consumers to verify whether the linking is successful. Those who want to check should visit Tangedco’s official website and click on the ‘billing services’ tab. In the drop-down, the ‘bill status’ should be chosen, which will take the consumers to a new page. The consumers can enter their service number and phone number registered with Tangedco, which will open the details about the particular service connection. The page will also have the information whether the Aadhaar details are updated for the connection. Alternatively, the consumers who pay the bill online can also check the Aadhaar status while paying the bill. Tangedco has also updated the step-by-step by process to check Aadhaar details on Twitter. A Tangedco official said that the provision has been enabled following queries. Recently, TOI had reported about the loss of electricity consumers’ Aadhaar data after which Tangedco officials clarified that only 112 consumers details were missing though they had received SMS that their Aadhaar-linking was successful and that they will be alerted through SMS to relink Aadhaar. Meanwhile, the number of consumers having linked Aadhaar with service connection has touched 2.26 crore till Friday.
