CHENNAI: To make linking of Aadhaar easier for domestic electricity consumers, Tangedco has introduced an option to do it without OTP validation at special counters at its section offices. Now, when a consumer tries to link Aadhaar with his/her service connection either online or at the special counters, the OTP is sent to the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar card. "But since some consumers no longer use that number, they face difficulty in getting the OTP. Since updating the mobile number on the Tangedco is working towards making as many connections Aadhaar-updated as possible before December 31. On Saturday, 3.35 lakh consumers linked their Aadhaar with service connection and the total number stands at 1.12 crore. The total number of domestic and agri connections is 2.66 crore. However, assistant engineers at the section offices say consumers are not convinced that their Aadhaar is linked since they do not get OTPs anymore. "Tangedco has been constantly making the process simpler, but I still have huge volume of connections that are yet to be linked to Aadhaar," said an assistant engineer.
