TCS CEO Rajesh Gopinathan quits; K Krithivasan named CEO Designate

TCS has nominated its current President and Global Head of the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) Business Group K Krithivasan as CEO Designate with immediate effect. "The Board has nominated K Krithivasan as the CEO Designate, with effect from 16th March 2023. Krithivasan will go through a transition with Rajesh Gopinathan and will be appointed as the Managing Director & CEO in the next financial year," the statement said.

While Gopinathan's salary for FY23 stood at Rs 1.73 crore, he pocketed Rs 25 crore as commission, and Rs 2.43 crore as benefits, perquisites, and allowances. Although Rajesh Gopinathan’s salary grew by a modest percentage in the fiscal under review, his remuneration was still 427 times the median pay of employees at the Mumbai-headquartered IT services company. Despite heading India’s largest IT company, Gopinathan’s paycheck is smaller compared to his counterparts at other top IT firms. While Gopinathan’s peer at Infosys, Salil Parekh, made Rs 56.44 crore in FY23, Wipro CEO Thierry Delaporte earned around Rs 82 crore. Krithivasan is currently president and global head of the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) Business Group at TCS. Krithivasan has been part of the global technology sector for over 34 years, having joined TCS in 1989. During his long tenure at TCS, he has held various leadership roles in delivery, customer relationship management, large program management and sales. Former Tata Consultancy Services CEO Rajesh Gopinathan earned Rs 29.16 crore in FY23, up 13.17% over FY22, the company stated in its annual report. His compensation rose 26.6% in FY22. Gopinathan was the fifth-highest-paid CEO within the Indian IT services sector earning a compensation of Rs 25.75 crore. His basic salary for the year was Rs 1.7 crore. Gopinathan will remain with the company till September 16 in an advisory role. TCS is India's largest IT company both by market capitalisation as well as revenue. Earlier this month, K Krithivasan took over as the TCS CEO. An IIT-Kanpur alumnus, 58-year-old Krithivasan is a TCS veteran, having been with the company for 30-plus years. He was previously president and global head of banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) vertical that accounts for nearly a third of the company's revenue. The IT services company has said that its new CEO, K Krithivasan, will have a basic salary of Rs 10 lakh per month, which can go up to Rs 16 lakh, plus other benefits.
