Delhi: Max temperature today to reach 42 degrees Celsius; thunderstorm with rain expected

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted that the temperature in the national capital would be around 42 degrees Celsius, while strong winds of 25-35 kmph are expected during the day. Meanwhile, the weather department also informed that the minimum temperature in Delhi on Sunday was recorded at 25.2 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees lower than the season's average. Visuals from India Gate Delhi witnessed a sudden change of weather on Sunday morning giving the residents a respite from the hot and humid weather conditions of the past few days. Meanwhile, Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) has also predicted light-intensity rains along with gusty winds at speeds of 30-40 km/hour. In a tweet on Sunday, RWFC wrote, “Thunderstorm with light intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 30-40 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of many places of Delhi ( Narela, Palam, Safdarjung, Vasant Kunj, IGNOU, Ayanagar) and Narwana, Rajaund, Jind, Gohana, Gannaur, Sonipat," According to IMD, the national capital had recorded its coolest May in 41 years with the minimum temperatures witnessed nine degrees below normal at 15.8 degrees Celsius.

According to weather analysts, the temperature is expected to hover around 41 to 42 degrees Celsius over the next two days. However, the weather may turn cloudy and cause rain on Wednesday and Thursday. "There was a feeble western disturbance which will have an impact on the western Himalayan region in the next two days. This will be clubbed with the southwesterly winds reaching the region around June 14, bringing additional moisture from the Arabian Sea. The combined effect of the western disturbance and moist winds will lead to thunderstorms or very light rainfall on Delhi-NCR, parts of Punjab, and Haryana by June 14 and 15," said Kuldeep Srivastava, senior weather scientist, IMD. He said the maximum temperature for the next two days would hover around 41 degrees Celsius.
