I’m Still Thinking About That Tomorrow War Soccer Scene

Alright, it’s been long enough that we can’t get yelled at for early-scene spoilers: I need to talk about that Tomorrow War soccer scene. “The Tomorrow War” is one of the summer’s biggest blockbusters, an action-sci-fi movie streaming on Amazon Prime. It opens with a terrifying glimpse into a future where Qatar is actually allowed to host the World Cup next year. Oh, and there are scary aliens too. The film came out on July 2, so if you haven’t seen it by now, you’re probably not going to see it, but we felt our readers might be interested in that Tomorrow War soccer scene. This story will only contain minor spoilers for the opening minutes of the movie, so you can still read this if you haven’t watched it yet. “The Tomorrow War” follows Dan Forester, played by Parks and Rec star Chris Pratt, as he saves the world by battling aliens in the future. It’s a decent enough movie that probably would’ve been improved by cutting off the last 40 minutes or so. I’ve seen worse movies, but I wouldn’t begrudge anyone for taking a pass on it. In the fi...

The reigning champions in France against an upstart Morocco, the first Arab and African team to reach the World Cup semifinals. The tournament’s top scorer, France’s Kylian Mbappe, against a Moroccan team that hasn’t allowed an opponent to score in five games. And finally France, a once ruthless colonizer, against Morocco, a country it once ruled. All the pressure is on France, which is playing in the semifinals for the sixth time in its last nine World Cups. Morocco, meanwhile, just the third team outside Europe and South America to reach the final four of a World Cup, is playing with house money. It has already eliminated three top-10 teams in Belgium, Spain and Portugal — all former African colonizers — winning it overwhelming popular support in Africa and the Arab world. “When you watch ‘Rocky’ you want to support Rocky Balboa,” Morocco coach Walid Regragui said. “We are now becoming the team that everyone loves because we are showing that even if you don’t have as much talent and money, you can succeed.” Geo...

4 Aussie players who were part of the 2015 ODI World Cup winning squad, the 2021 T20 World Cup winning squad and this Test Championship winning squad: Think it's Warner, Smith, Starc, Cummins. Marsh was in the two white-ball squads, but here he was only a reserve. Andrew McGlashan with this super stat. All through their tour of India earlier this year, they might have been dreaming of this. They needed to win one of those four games to make it to The Oval. They did. And in conditions that suit them, they have been UNDENIABLY the better side. India fell behind in the first innings, giving away 469, but they hung in there from that point all the way through to the fifth day which dawned with hope. They were 164 for 3 with Kohli and Rahane in the middle of a 71-run partnership at really good time. All that fight should not go unnoticed. Through this two year cycle, they have played some excellent Test cricket.
