By India Today Auto Desk: Maruti Suzuki India has christened its upcoming multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), which is based on the Toyota Innova Hycross, as the Maruti Suzuki Invicto. While the Maruti Suzuki Invicto bookings will open on June 19, the price of the MPV will be announced on July 5. The Invicto will be the first Toyota vehicle that Maruti will sell in India under its own brand name. On its part, Maruti has already provided two vehicles to Toyota, the first being the erstwhile Vitara Brezza, which Toyota sold as Urban Cruiser, and the second was the Baleno, which Toyota offers as the Glanza. The Toyota Innova Hycross is priced between Rs 18.55 lakh and Rs 29.99 lakh (ex-showroom). We can expect the Maruti Suzuki Invicto price to be in a similar range. The Innova Hycross has two engine options -- 2.0-litre VVTi petrol and 2.0-litre VVTi petrol with a self-charging strong hybrid electric system. The 2.0-litre VVTi petrol develops 174PS of max power and 205Nm of peak torque, and comes mated to a CVT automatic. The strong hybrid unit churns out combined max power of 186PS with the engine torque at 188Nm and the motor torque at 206Nm, and is paired with an e-drive sequential shift. We expect the Invicto to have both engine choices. The Invicto will be Maruti's flagship vehicle following its launch in India. At present, the Grand Vitara is the most expensive model of the carmaker, priced between Rs 10.70 lakh and Rs 19.79 lakh (ex-showroom).
