AFTER enduring 16 gruelling surgeries spanning a year, Bangladesh’s “Tree Man” has finally been cured. Adul Bajandar became world famous for his rare disease called epidermodysplasia verruciformis — a condition that caused bark-like warts to grow uncontrollably on his hands and feet. The warts became so bad, the 27-year-old couldn’t use his appendages and would have eventually led to his death. The successful removal of the growths, which weighed five kilograms, marks the first time the condition has ever been cured. Now, just 12 months later, he can see his hands and feet, and is even able use them to perform simple tasks. Samanta Lal Sen, plastic surgery co-ordinator at Dhaka Medical College Hospital said Mr Bajandar will still require a few more operations for cosmetic reasons, but the legwork had been done. “Bajandar’s cure was a remarkable milestone in the history of medical science,” she said. “We operated on him at least 16 times to remove the warts. Suspected serial palm tree arsonist arrested in Texas
