Tripura Election Results: The BJP-IPFT alliance won 33 seats in the 60-member Tripura assembly, securing its return to power in the northeastern state for the second time in a row. According to the Election Commission website, the BJP bagged 30 seats while the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) got one. The saffron party is leading in two more seats as results of 57 seats were declared on Thursday. “The BJP's victory was expected… We were eagerly waiting for it. Assembly Election 2023 Dates HIGHLIGHTS: Lakshwadeep, 5 States To Undergo Bypolls On Feb 27, Counting Of Votes On March 2

The Union Territory of Lakshwadeep and six Assembly constituencies across five states will undergo bypolls along with Assembly elections in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura. The bypolls for one Parliamentary seat in Lakshwadeep, Lumla Assembly constituency in Arunachal Pradesh, Ramgarh Assembly constituency in Jharkhand, Erode Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu, Sagardighi Assembly constituency in West Bengal, and Kasba Peth and Chinchwad Assembly constituencies in Maharashtra will be held simultaneousy with following schedule. Gazette notification will be issued on January 31 and the last date of nomination set on February 7. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on February 8 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination will be February 10. Polling will take place on February 27 and votes will be counted on March 2 along with Tripura and Meghalaya and the poll process will be completed by March 4, 2023, said the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in a press conference in the national capital today. New Delhi:The Election Commission of India will announce the poll schedule for the Legislative Assemblies of three North Eastern states — Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya — today at 2:30 pm. The term of assemblies of Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tripura is ending on March 12, March 15, and March 22, respectively. Earlier, the poll panel said that it would visit the three states to review preparedness ahead of the elections. The three states would be the first to undergo polls this year likely in February-March, reported PTI. While Tripura has a BJP government, in Nagaland, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party is in power. National People’s Party, the only party from the Northeast to have national party recognition, runs the government in Meghalaya. Tripura Legislative Assembly Elections A four-cornered fight is expected between BJP, Congress, Left, and Trinamool Congress in Tripura where the BJP has changed the CM face to beat anti-incumbency. In 2018, the saffron party won 35 seats and unseated the 20-year incumbent CM, Manik Sarkar of CPI(M). 20 out of 60 seats were dominated by tribals in the last assembly elections held in the state. Approximately 81% of 28.13 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the Tripura assembly elections till 4 pm on Thursday, with polling largely being peaceful amid sporadic incidents of violence, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gitte Kirankumar Dinakarrao said. At least three people, including a CPI(M) leader and two polling agents of the Left party, were injured in separate incidents of violence during the polling. The exercise began at 7 am and continued till 4 pm. "A large number of voters were seen queuing in front of polling stations since morning to exercise their franchise. The polling process has largely remained peaceful amidst tight security," he told reporters. "A total of 69.96 per cent voting was recorded till 3 pm. It will be a challenge to complete the process by 4 pm as we expect a huge turnout at the end of the day," he added. Noting that free and fair elections are being conducted, the CEO said the ECI has ensured the entry of more than one party's polling agent in all the 3,337 booths. However, sporadic incidents of violence were also reported during the exercise. A CPI(M) local committee secretary was injured after being attacked by unidentified people in Boxanagar area in Sepahijala district. He was taken to a nearby health facility, where his condition is stated to be stable, a police officer said.
