Tuition Waiver for Local Research Postgraduate Students

Starting from the 2018/19 academic year, the Government has provided a tuition waiver for all local full-time students enrolled in the UGC-funded Research Postgraduate(RPg) programmes. The objective of the tuition waiver is to incentivise more local students to join the RPg programmes, so as to build up a pool of local research talents in order to sustain Hong Kong's competitiveness and propel the development of our higher education sector. The scheme provides non-means-tested tuition waiver to all eligible local full-time students enrolled in the UGC-funded RPg programmes. Many students find this scheme appealing for the following reasons: • waived tuition fees for eligible students; • unlimited number of waiver recipients; • a waiver scheme that covers the tuition fees for the normative study period of the UGC-funded RPg programmes including: • MPhil study – 2 years; • PhD study for students who possess a research master's degree – 3 years; and • PhD study for students who do not possess a research master's degree – 4 years. • students that enroll in a PhD programme after completing an MPhil programme will be entitled to tuition waivers for both programmes. Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme: AICTE Issues Guidelines For PGDM, PGCM Standalone Institutions

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has released an official notification regarding a Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) scheme for all its approved PGDM/PGCM Standalone institutions. The scheme shall be mandatory for all Standalone institutions approved by the Council, said in a notification issued by the AICTE on Thursday. Under the scheme, a maximum of 5 percent ‘approved intake’ per course shall be available for admission. These seats shall be supernumerary in nature (over and above the approved intake). These supernumerary seats shall be available only to such course(s) in an institution where a minimum of 50 percent of ‘approved intake’ are filled up in last academic year. “In case of any punitive action (penalty), the TFW seats shall be calculated based on the actual approved intake (reduced intake). Similarly, TFW seats calculated as per the procedure mentioned above ore separate from the TFW seats already reserved /earmarked as a part of punitive action (if any),” the AICTE guidelines read. Requirements and Eligibility: -Sons/ daughters of parents whose annual income from all sources shall not exceed Rs 8 Lakh. -The waiver is limited to the Tuition Fee as approved by the BOG of the institution for all self-financing institutions and by the Government for the Government/ Government-Aided institutions.
