He also talks about his brother, Uday Chopra. Nepotism has been a thorny issue for Bollywood for the past five years, ever since Kangana Ranaut raised it on Karan Johar’s chat show, Koffee with Karan. For the first time, filmmaker Aditya Chopra has addressed the subject in the latest Netflix documentary, The Romantics. Aditya brings up the topic of his own brother Uday Chopra, an actor, who despite being the son of an illustrious filmmaker, could not make his mark in the Hindi film industry. Uday could only scrape a few hits in Bollywood, including Dhoom, Meri Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai and Mohabbatein. Talking about the subject of nepotism, Aditya said, “One of the things that people tend to ignore, is that every person who comes from a privileged background–everyone is not successful. I can articulate it without mentioning other people. I can just articulate it mentioning my own family. My brother is an actor, and he’s not a very successful actor. Here is the son of one of the biggest filmmakers. He’s the brother of a very big filmmaker. Imagine a company like YRF who has launched so many newcomers, we could not make him a star. Why could we not do it for our own? The bottom line is, only an a...

Uday Chopra Might Not have Long List of Hit Films, But His Net Worth Will Shock You

It’s been years since the Hindi film audience saw actor-producer Uday Chopra on screen. After a string of flops, Uday nearly disappeared from the screen. Uday, who has a handful of hit films, including the Dhoom series and Mohabbatein, to his name, is the younger son of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra. And despite his failure in Bollywood, the man’s net worth will shock you. The younger of the Chopra sons has a net worth of 5 million dollars, roughly Rs. 38 crore. He, along with his brother Aditya Chopra, oversees the business of YRF Entertainment. Uday has his own company named ‘Yomix’, which is quite famous for creating comics based on famous movies directed by his father Yash. Uday made his debut in the film ‘Yeh Dillagi’ in 1994 with Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and Kajol. This movie did extremely well at the box office. After the movie’s success, Uday felt that he should work as a hero and he signed Mohabbatein. After this, he starred in the Dhoom franchise, but success evaded him after that. The cine lovers did not consider him the “leading hero material". Although Dhoom was a box office hit, Chopra’s later ventures such as ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi’ and ‘Neil and Nikki’, which starred his then-girlfriend Tanisha Mukherji, could not replicate the success of the earlier movies. Uday Chora is single. There were reports of relationships with Kajol’s sister Tanisha Mukerji and Rockstar actor Nargis Fakhri, but neither lasted. "We could not make Uday Chopra a star": Aditya Chopra – ThePrint – ANIFeed

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], February 17 (ANI): Despite coming from a filmmaking family, actor Uday Chopra failed to connect with the audience. He made his acting debut in his brother Aditya Chopra’s directorial ‘Mohabbatein’ in 2000. The film was a hit and Uday’s acting skills were appreciated. However, his real struggle started post-‘Mohabbatein’. He featured in a couple of films like ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai’, the ‘Dhoom’ franchise and ‘Neal ‘n’ Nikki’ but failed to leave an impression on the audience’s minds. And now in Netflix’s recent docu-series ‘The Romantics’, Aditya talks about nepotism and why Uday Chopra couldn’t go far in his acting career. He said, “My brother is an actor and he’s not a very successful actor. Now, here is the son of one of the biggest filmmakers, he’s the brother of a very big filmmaker. Imagine a company like YRF, that has probably launched the most newcomers, and we could not make him a star. Why could we not do it for our own? Because the bottom line is, only an audience will decide, ‘I like this person, I want to see this person’. No one else can decide that.” Following this, Uday opened up about his career. “When Dhoom happened, I was still trying to be a mainstream actor. I should have taken Ali as an example and done roles like that,” Uday said. The Mohabbatein actor further said that he received many offers, but he refused them all, as he “was trying to get into a space” that he agreed wasn’t meant for him. “When I started acting, I ...
