The UT Dallas Top 10% Scholarship is offered to first-time college freshmen admitted for the fall term immediately following high school graduation from an accredited Texas high school. Awards provide $1,500 per semester toward tuition and mandatory fees for a maximum of eight semesters of undergraduate study. Awards are limited, and students are automatically considered for the UTD Top 10% Scholarship based on the date of their completed application to the University. No separate application is required. Students who are not awarded AES may be eligible for the UT Dallas Top 10% Scholarship award if they meet the following criteria: • Be a first-time freshman applicant admitted to UT Dallas for the fall semester immediately following high school graduation. • Be officially designated as a student in the top 10% of their Texas high school graduating class at the time of admission. • Be a Texas resident at the time of admission. The UT Dallas Top 10% Scholarship recipients will be supported by the AES Program and the Office of Financial Aid. From Professor Fass is a tenured professor of public policy and affairs at UTD [University of Texas Dallas]. For the past thirty years, he has taught a wide range of graduate and undergraduate courses. Since 1988, he has regularly taught statistics courses for the School of Economics, Political, and Policy Sciences (EPPS)…. In late March 2019, Dean Jennifer Holmes, who served as Head of UTD's School of EPPS, informed Professor Fass he would receive a classroom "peer evaluation" outside of his usual scheduled evaluations. A non-tenured instructor who had not taught undergraduate statistics since 2004 observed Professor Fass's evening class. The next day, Dean Holmes told Professor Fass the evaluator was "very critical" of his teaching. She also told him several of his students from his morning section complained about his class. This was the first time Professor Fass heard about any student complaints. Dean Holmes also discussed with him her concerns about the rate of withdrawals, failures, and drops (WFDs) in his class. UTD administrators had never stated WFDs were relevant to a professor's teaching method and never included them as a metric in performance evaluations. School of Interdisciplinary Studies Education (BA, BS) UT Dallas offers both a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree (BAED) and a Bachelor of Science in Education degree (BSED) through the School of Interdisciplinary Studies. Each degree emphasizes a broader understanding and wider perspective of the field of education. Becoming a teacher takes preparation and planning. To ensure the highest professional standards, the state of Texas and The University of Texas at Dallas require students to pass a series of rigorous courses, complete extensive fieldwork and demonstrate their knowledge of content and educational expertise on state licensure exams to become fully certified as a highly qualified teacher in Texas. The Teacher Development Center (TDC) at UT Dallas offers all the preparation courses required for teacher certification, including practical classes in curriculum and instruction, educational technology, and classroom management.
