UP Nikay Chunav 2023 Winner List: The urban local body elections in Uttar Pradesh was held for a total of 14,684 posts. Of the total posts, 17 are for mayors, 1,420 for corporators, 199 for chairpersons of municipal councils, 5,327 for members of municipal councils, 544 for chairpersons of town panchayats, and 7,178 for members of town panchayats. Lucknow: The result of Uttar Pradesh urban local body polls or UP Nikay Chunav held in two phases, on May 4 and 11, will be declared today. The counting of votes is underway. The two-phase elections saw the political parties, including the ruling BJP and main opposition Samajwadi Party, making all-out efforts to strengthen themselves ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. According to Uttar Pradesh State Election Commissioner Manoj Kumar, the urban local body elections was held for a total of 14,684 posts. Of the total posts, 17 are for mayors, 1,420 for corporators, 199 for chairpersons of municipal councils, 5,327 for members of municipal councils, 544 for chairpersons of town panchayats, and 7,178 for members of town panchayats. Lucknow: Riding on a campaign blitzkrieg led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Bharatiya Janata Party swept all 17 mayoral seats in the state on Saturday. In 2017, it had 14 out of 16. Yogi addressed 50 rallies in 12 days to set the tone. The split in Muslim votes -- among SP, BSP and AIMIM -- also played a significant role in BJP's victory on several seats, especially in west UP. In 2017, BSP had won Aligarh and Meerut mayoral seats. This time, its candidates were ahead in Saharanpur and Agra for quite some time, but eventually lost to the BJP candidates. Like last time, both SP and Congress failed to open their accounts. BJP not only did well on mayoral seats, but also significantly improved its tally on 199 Nagar Palika seats and 544 Nagar Panchayat seats. The BJP winners on mayoral seats were Sushma Kharakwal in Lucknow, Girishpati Tripathi in Ayodhya, Ashok Tiwari in Varanasi, Sunita Dayal in Ghaziabad, Umesh Gautam in Bareilly, Archana Verma in Shahjahanpur, Prashant Singha in Aligarh, Pramila Pandey in Kanpur, Harikant Ahluwalia in Meerut, Bihari Lal Arya in Jhansi, Ganesh Kesarwani in Prayagraj, Mangalesh Srivastav in Gorakhpur, Hemlata Kushwaha in Agra, Vinod Kumar Agarwal in Mathura, Vinod Agarwal in Moradabad, Dr Ajay Kumar in Saharanpur and Kamini Rathore in Firozabad. UP Municipal Election Result 2023 LIVE: BJP extended its dominance in Uttar Pradesh. The ruling party is won all 10 out of 17 municipal corporations seats. The ruling BJP won the mayoral elections in 10 of the 17 municipal corporations in Uttar Pradesh, results for which were announced on Saturday, virtually adding a third engine to its "double-engine" government. The party's candidates won in Ayodhya, Jhansi, Bareilly, Mathura-Vrindavan, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Prayagraj, Aligarh, Shahjahanpur and Ghaziabad. The urban local body polls were held in two phases -- on May 4 and May 11 -- to elect 17 mayors and 1,401 corporators. Nineteen corporators were elected unopposed, according to the State Election Commission.
