Image Source : INDIA TV Bihar municipal elections 2023 Bihar municipal elections 2023: Polling is underway for the 31 municipal bodies in Bihar on Friday amid tight security. The voting which began at 7 am will conclude at 5 pm. The elections are being held for 18 municipal councils, 2 municipal corporations and 11 village panchayats in total. The election was necessitated as the tenure of 31 municipal bodies expired in the month of June. Notably, this is the first time that the general public has been allowed to elect their representatives directly, as only ward members were allowed earlier to take part in these elections. A total of 1677 polling booths have been set up for voting. The elections were to be held for a total of 816 posts, but out of these, unopposed elections have been held on 9 posts. New Delhi: In the second phase of the ongoing urban local body elections in Uttar Pradesh, candidates for a total of 77 posts have been elected unopposed, as announced by the State Election Commission. These include the position of Nagar Panchayat president and other councilor seats, reported news agency PTI. Notably, the election for the Rabupura Nagar Panchayat president in Gautam Buddha Nagar district was conducted unopposed. Additionally, five councilors from Aligarh, three from Meerut, and one councilor from Ghaziabad have also been elected unopposed. Similarly, out of 36 unopposed members in Nagar Panchayats, 16 have been elected from Gautam Buddha Nagar, three from Etah, two each from Azamgarh, Banda, Kasganj, Farrukhabad, Aligarh and Hathras, and one each from Bulandshahr, Barabanki, Siddharthnagar, Pilibhit and Hamirpur, according to a press statement issued by the election commission on Saturday. State Election Commissioner Manoj Kumar said in the statement that 31 members of municipal councils have been elected unopposed in different districts.
