Investments

Our fiduciary duty is to put members first and protect their pensions. Our in-house investment team carefully considers investment assets, opportunities, and risk through the lens of the Plan’s liabilities, striking a balance between three key objectives: • Generate sufficient returns to keep the plan fully funded, ensuring we can pay members’ pensions for decades to come • Keep benefit and contribution levels as stable as possible over time • build resilient value in a changing world Our approach combines focused investment strategies at the asset class level with sophisticated asset allocation, risk, liquidity, and ESG 2 management at the total fund level. We know that environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors, such as climate change, will present material and evolving impacts over time and must be firmly embedded in our investment analysis and risk management. Responsible investing — being the integration of ESG considerations into our investment processes and stewardship practices — helps us ensure we can fulfil our pension promise to generations of members while helping influence a resilient financial, social, and environmental future. This is essential for a pension fund with generational responsibilities — our ability to deliver sustainable value to current and future members relies on healthy, functioning systems.

In the US, UPPP is the most commonly performed procedure for obstructive sleep apnea with approximately 33,000 procedures performed per year. The surgery is more successful in patients who are not obese, and there is a limited role in morbidly obese (>40kg/m 2) individuals. Procedural details [ ] Standard procedure [ ] UPPP is typically administered to patients with obstructive Role in the "Stanford Protocol" operation [ ] UPPP is also offered to sleep apnea patients who opt for a more comprehensive surgical procedure known as the " Phase 2 involves maxillomandibular advancement, a surgery which moves the jaw top (maxilla) and bottom (mandible) forward. The tongue muscle is anchored to the chin, and translation of the mandible forward pulls the tongue forward as well. If the procedure achieves the desired results, when the patient sleeps and the tongue relaxes, it will no longer be able to block the airway. Success is much better for Phase 2 than for Phase 1 – approximately 90 percent benefit from the second phase, and the success of the Stanford Protocol Operation therefore is due in large part to this second phase. There is debate among surgeons as to the role of Phase 1 surgery. In 2002, an Atlanta-based surgical team, led by Dr. Jeffrey Prinsell, published Succes...
