Exclusive: International Skateboarding Federation still hoping to manage Tokyo 2020 competition if sport selected

Discussions are still being held by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) about who would oversee a skateboarding competition if the sport is ultimately added to the Tokyo 2020 schedule following a recommendation by Games organisers today. Skateboarding was proposed alongside baseball and softball, karate, sport climbing and surfing as five sports were put forward from an eight-strong list of nominees which was whittled down. Discussions will next take place within the IOC Executive Board before a final decision on what to include is made at next summer's IOC Session in Rio de Janeiro. Skateboarding events were included within the International Roller Skating Federation's (FIRS) submission, because both the International Skateboarding Federation (ISF) and World Skateboarding Federation (WSF) are not recognised by the IOC so were not eligible to apply. But, although speed skating was also shortlisted, only street and park skateboarding events were ultimately proposed, with a total of 80 athletes set to compete across two male and two female competitions. This raises the possibility of the FIRS assuming responsibility for a competition which consists only of events on a single board. Yet in a statement sent to insidethegames since the decision, the ISF have claimed it is still possible that the responsible governing body could be switched. The ISF oversaw skateboarding events in the Sports Lab during the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games ©IOC "At a later date the IOC will...

ISC Mount Laurel

We did open play on a Saturday for my 7-year-old son. It was very busy and we got the full wristband package: Roller skating, fun zone, and bounce houses. My son had to rent skates but you can bring your own. There is also a small arcade which only accepts cash, so bring cash if you plan to do that. The "fun zone" is basically a huge climbing structure. There were a few issues with kids getting stuck in it, either their feet got caught in the ropes or a child got scared high up and couldn't find their way down. Amazingly, the other children would help them out and get everyone down safely. There are two enormous bounce houses with slides. My son loved them but you get 5-10 minutes max out of that. This was the first time we tried roller skating and there were many other children the same age just learning. Parents are allowed out in the ring without skates to help. There are also wheeled skate "walkers" made of PVC pipe available to help new skaters. My son won some tickets in a game the staff coordinated so although we did not use the arcade, we didn't leave empty handed. In general, this was a win and we will definitely be back for the open play. It's great that there is an indoor activity for the 6-10-year-old crowd once they've outgrown Jellybean Jungle. Finally, there is some noise with a lot of announcements for birthday parties and music playing in the skate area, but it's not deafening. They have winter indoor soccer league. The field has indoor turf. They also hav...

International Sports Center

ISC Cherry Hill is South Jersey’s #1 Family Place to have FUN! Conveniently located in Cherry Hill, Deptford, and Mt. Laurel each Family Fun Facility offers an indoor Roller Skating Rink, indoor Turf Field(s), Fun Zone- an indoor Giant Jungle Gym, Interactive Inflatable(s), Exciting Video Arcade, Ticket Redemption Center, and a Full Service Snack Bar. My grandsons love this place, so much so that the 11 year old is at summer camp there right now. Not only do they have organized activities in the evenings and on weekends, aside from the summer camp sports program, they also have a large arcade game area, which I think is a waste of money, but our boys love it and cherish the cheap "prizes" they purchase with their winning coupons form the arcade games. Stumbled upon this online and decided to take my kid here. They have a roller rink (with roller skates, not rollerblades for rent! I grew up using roller skates) as well as a big climbing apparatus and a single bounce house. The bounce house was neat, kid loved the ability to slide down the side (and it is a fast slide!) and loves the apparatus as well. Men's bathroom was clean. Well worth the money to come here, and it's not expensive as well. Note: The facility is not on Kresson Road, but on a side road, Howard Johnson Blvd. (I think - it's by a gas station) - and it's easy getting to and from 295 and well as 70. Recommended. We'll definitely be back, even though Saturday hours are short - noon to 4:30 p.m. They also have a...
