Easy How to Draw Santa Claus Tutorial Video and Coloring Page

The great thing about learning how to draw Santa Claus, is that pretty much every child already has an idea of what he looks like. They all know he has a white beard, bright red suit, and black belt and boots. Older and newer versions may vary a bit, but those basic features are here to stay. Students that are just learning how to draw though, can really benefit from an example of how all those things go together. How does the beard overlap the suit? What about the hands? And how do you draw the white trim that is everywhere? Those that benefit from live examples may want to watch my Santa Claus video shown above. This Santa tutorial includes ways to draw all those features, and keeps them simple and symmetrical. It’s the best way for new artists to draw a complete body. Drawing a Santa that is walking or holding things can come later on, after this one is accomplished. Smaller steps that help students feel more confident in their abilities is always a good way to get started. You may have noticed that all of the tutorials on this site have a dashed line running through the center of each step, in both horizontal and vertical directions. If students make their owncentered lines on their ownpaper, before drawing, they will have a reference to follow. Drawing skills are all about getting the size and placement of lines on paper, so having some visual reference point to get started, will always help anyone learn how to be a little more accurate. So does that mean students nee...

12 Easy Christmas Drawing Ideas for the Holiday

Christmas drawings can be a wonderful way to either relax or practice your drawing skills during the holidays. There are so many Christmas drawing ideas you can create during the holidays, and with enough skill, the drawings can make heartfelt gifts and decorations around the house. I’ve assembled a few ideas to get you started on what you can draw during the holidays. Most of these ideas are done in watercolor, but you can feel free to draw them with a paper and pencil of your choice! Christmas Trees Christmas trees are one of the more complex and detailed things to draw, depending on the level of decorations you add. However, you can go for a quick sketch, highlighting just some impressions of the colored lights and ball ornaments. Or, you can go much more detailed, trying to get the shape and feel of the entire tree with decorations on it. Also, you can pay careful attention to composition and balance, thinking about color. Santa Claus If you are looking to work on some portraiture, Santa Claus is a great Christmas drawing idea! He’s got a very detailed face with which you can go in many different directions, plus he gives off a cheerful attitude. Make sure to get his red suit in there. Santa Claus has very distinct shapes, so take advantage of drawing circles and curves when drawing him. If you’re feeling you want more of a challenge perhaps go for Santa’s sleigh and reindeer if you want a fuller and richer Christmas scene. Alternatively, you can go for a chimney scene...

How to Draw Simple Christmas Icons—With Videos!

Winter is coming, and with it come all the winter holidays! Let's celebrate by drawing a few very simple illustrations that you can create without any previous experience. I will lead you step by step to help you draw a robin on a branch, a cute reindeer, a present with a beautiful bow, and a Christmas decoration. You can also watch a video of me drawing each, to see exactly how to do it! What You Will Need • A sheet of paper • A pencil • Anything darker than the pencil (a thin marker, a gel pen, a ballpoint pen, etc.) Before you start, keep a few things in mind: • The smaller the drawings, the easier it will be for you to keep the correct proportions. Draw all the animals on one sheet, and treat them like small practice sketches rather than artworks on their own. • The illustrations in this tutorial are clear so that you see what you're supposed to draw—yours don't need to and even shouldn't be so perfectly drawn. • Don't try to draw the shapes with a single continuous line. Watch the videos to see how I build the shapes out of curves, connecting them only when I see what I was trying to draw. • The base for each drawing should be drawn with a pencil, with subtle lines, without pushing the tool too hard. This way the lines will not be visible when you finish the drawing with dark outlines. Watch the videos to see both phases of drawing. 1. How to Draw a Robin in Winter Step 1 Start with a circle for the body. It doesn't need to be a perfect circle. Step 2 Add another, sma...

Easy How to Draw a Stocking Tutorial and Stocking Coloring Page

A favorite holiday decoration is the classic stocking, hanging by a rope or the fireplace. It’s easy to see why they are so loved, with their bright colors and hint of secret gifts inside. When students learn how to draw a Christmas Stocking, they can turn it into a charming gift or holiday card. The basic drawing of a stocking is rather simple, but this tutorial will show how easy it is to add a little more dimension. First, the pattern on the stocking itself can be curved a bit, which is extra easy if you work with stripes. That’s all it takes to make it already look more round and less flat. Second, the opening in the top can include something fun peeking out, like a wrapped gift. By drawing a band to make it look like it goes wraps around the item, the stocking looks like it could have all kinds of fun things stuffed inside. Which I suppose is the allure in the first place! Time needed: 35 minutes. How to Draw a Christmas Stocking • Start with an angled band. • Add the stocking below. • Draw a heal and toe sections. • Add stripes above the heel. • Draw more stripes and stitches. • Add part of a package on top. • Add ribbon and a loop. • Draw a hanging rope. • Trace with marker and color.
