The great thing about learning how to draw Santa Claus, is that pretty much every child already has an idea of what he looks like. They all know he has a white beard, bright red suit, and black belt and boots. Older and newer versions may vary a bit, but those basic features are here to stay. I’ve assembled a few ideas to get you started on what you can draw during the holidays. Most of these ideas are done in watercolor, but you can feel free to draw them with a paper and pencil of your choice! Christmas Trees Christmas trees are one of the more complex and detailed things to draw, depending on the level of decorations you add. However, you can go for a quick sketch, highlighting just some impressions of the colored lights and ball ornaments. Winter is coming, and with it come all the winter holidays! Let's celebrate by drawing a few very simple illustrations that you can create without any previous experience. I will lead you step by step to help you draw a robin on a branch, a cute reindeer, a present with a beautiful bow, and a Christmas decoration. What You Will Need • A sheet of paper • A pencil • Anything darker than the pencil (a thin marker, a gel pen, a ballpoint pen, etc.) Before you start, keep a few things in mind: • The smaller the drawings, the easier it will be for you to keep the correct proportions. Draw all the animals on one sheet, and treat them like small practice sketches rather than artworks on their own. • The illustrations in this tutorial are clear so that you see what you're supposed to draw—yours don't need to and even shouldn't be so perfectly drawn. • Don't try to draw the shapes with a single continuous line. A favorite holiday decoration is the classic stocking, hanging by a rope or the fireplace. It’s easy to see why they are so loved, with their bright colors and hint of secret gifts inside. When students learn how to draw a Christmas Stocking, they can turn it into a charming gift or holiday card. The basic drawing of a stocking is rather simple, but this tutorial will show how easy it is to add a little more dimension. First, the pattern on the stocking itself can be curved a bit, which is extra easy if you work with stripes. That’s all it takes to make it already look more round and less flat. Second, the opening in the top can include something fun peeking out, like a wrapped gift. By drawing a band to make it look like it goes wraps around the item, the stocking looks like it could have all kinds of fun things stuffed inside. Which I suppose is the allure in the first place!
