Vikrant Rona Movie Review: A Bone

Written and directed by Anup Bhandari, the movie has been receiving great enthusiasm from fans and adventure movie lovers. Sudeep's portrayal of Vikrant Rona is most stylish and aptly set the tone and theme for this period drama, set almost half a century ago, in the tropical rainforest of a fictional village. Story: The film's story is set in a haunted place called Kamorottu. The movie starts with the murder of a police officer, and the serial killing of kids follows. Vikrant Rona (Sudeep) is assigned to solve these mysterious deaths. Who is behind all these deaths and how Vikrant Rona finds the serial killer forms the rest of the story. Performances: Kiccha Sudeep carried the same swag throughout the film, whether it is action sequences, dialogues, acting, or dance moves. His acting in pre-climax will make you teary-eyed. Nirup Bhandari as Sanju is decent but he surprises in the second half. Neethu Ashok is cute and gorgeous and she will shine in Sandalwood in the future. Jacqueline Fernandez as Gadang Rakkamma will add more glamour to the film and the chart-buster song 'Ra Ra Rakkamma' is a treat to watch on the big screen. So many new faces performed well in this film. Technical Aspects: Anup Bhandari played it safe by choosing his strong genre. He used the same template as Rangitaranga for Vikrant Rona. His writing in the second half is excellent. The emotional scenes are well written and will connect with the audience. Shiva Kumar's artwork is magical while William D...

Vikrant Rona movie review: Glorious world

The first thing Vikrant Rona hits you with is a ton of genres. Children start narrating the story of an age-old legend, which turns into gory horror soon enough. Some other kids disappear, a cop gets killed, a missing child returns as an adult after decades to melodramatic effect. There’s a supposed comedy track about a Muslim man who loves to procreate. The ‘hero’ makes his entry (a couple of times), people get beat up in slick, slow-motion. All of it looks rich and gorgeous, yet little of it is coherent enough for you to seamlessly process. And this feeling lingers all the way through, as you go from one stunningly mounted scene to another, but ones which are often disjointed in thought. Vikrant Rona is a tragic example of thoroughly competent execution falling prey to a script that needed to be stripped down, so it could follow the sound of one rhythmic heartbeat with singular focus. If it is any consolation, most films that disappoint, do so because it feels like they weren’t written enough. Vikrant Rona feels like a film that was written too much. A little restraint would have gone a long way in doing emotional justice to the captivating imagery on display, something the film faithfully hangs on to all through. That, and the unconditional subservience to its swag-alicious leading man, ‘Baadshah’ Kichcha Sudeepa. The fundamental problem with Vikrant Rona is that the film spends too much time building up a giant red herring, which is designed to add shades and screen-ti...

‎Vikrant Rona (2022) directed by Anup Bhandari • Reviews, film + cast • Letterboxd

Almost half a century ago, a remote village in the middle of a tropical rain forest starts witnessing a series of unexplainable events which they attribute to the supernatural. Vikrant Rona, An eccentric police officer, is assigned to solve the mystery. A mysterious game unfolds where everyone in the village is a potential victim and everyone is a suspect. It is a visual treat in 3D. The first half drags aimlessly. Confusion lingers about where the film is heading. Actually the movie starts in second half, as each knot is untied, the film comes to life. The biggest strength of the film is its art direction. The elegant art design brings the visuals to life. William David's camera plays intrudingly. If you get past the poor first half, the second half will definitely not disappoint you as it offers comfort and contains some surprises. • Oh! these item songs never dissapoint — after grand success of Samantha Prabhu as item girl in "Oo Antava" from PUSPHA, here comes another hit, this time with Bollywood diva Jacqueline in centre of mayhem: Jackie's fiery dance moves in Jani master's brilliant choreography with fast-moving lyrics (penned down by Anup Bhandari ) and louder beats of Nakash Aziz and Sunidhi Chauhan's "Ra Ra Rakkama" song is the new sensation of social media and certainly brings the total spotlight over its little three or four minute's overwhelming melody despite Bhandari's this attempt, in psychological horror-thriller realm, having a largely complicated and gr...

'Vikrant Rona' review: Sudeep unfurls unseen avatar in this engaging thriller

Express News Service Right from the time of Vikrant Rona's announcement, the vibes surrounding the project were overwhelmingly positive. This was the first collaboration between Sudeep and Anup Bhandari. Sudeep's flair, sophistication, and style met Anup's originality in the film, which also starred the filmmaker's brother and actor Nirup Bhandari. There was a lot of hype with the trailer, interviews, and songs, and after watching the film, it is clear that Vikrant Rona has indeed risen to the occasion. With Sudeep in the titular role, Vikrant Rona is a page-turner that takes us a few decades back to the remote village of Kamarottu, which surrounds a rainforest. The village with a sordid secret has unexplainable events happening, which are attributed to the supernatural. Aparna Ballal (a) Panna (Neetha Ashok) arrives in the village with her Mumbai-based family. We are also introduced to Sanjeev Gambhira (Nirup Bhandari), the long-lost son of the village head. Then we have the entry of police officer Vikrant Rona (Sudeep), who is accompanied by his daughter Guddi. The film runs on two parallel plots while the attention remains on a haunted house with a mystery surrounding it. Every person living in the village is looked at as either a victim or a suspect. The mystery unfolds in the second half when all the dots are connected. Will Vikrant Rona finally succeed in achieving his mission comes with frequent twists and turns, keeping the audience intrigued and ending with a surp...

Vikrant Rona Box Office Review ( Photo Credit – Vikrant Rona Poster ) Vikrant Rona Box Office Review (Hindi) – Star cast: Kichcha Sudeep, Nirup Bhandari, Neetha Ashok, Ravishankar Gowda, Madhusudan Rao & others Director: Anup Bhandari Producers: Shalini Manjunath & Jack Manjunath Vikrant Rona Box Office Review (Hindi): Expectations Amid the ongoing heated debate of Bollywood vs South, several films of South origin are getting much-deserved attention and Kichcha Sudeep’s Vikrant Rona is one out of it. Of course, it was a highly-anticipated film in the Sandalwood industry, but thanks to the historic success of If not popular, Kichcha Sudeep is a known face here with his Makkhi being popular on TV and him being a villain in Dabangg 3, thus helping in creating awareness about the film’s presence in the Hindi market. On top of that, the promotions have been decent enough unlike several recent releases which were pan-Indian films just for the sake of the name. So on the whole, VR did manage to create some air around it. Nonetheless, it looked like a totally word-of-mouth dependent affair. Vikrant Rona Box Office Review (Hindi): Impact Unlike Vikram, We can say that VR has at least got a start and the road ahead looks a bit smoother as its competitor in the Hindi belt, Ek Villain Returns, is receiving poor reviews and word-of-mouth. Yes, EVR will cause an impact due to its screen count, unless it’s a complete washout. VR is a suspense thriller, so it’s good for a one-time watch b...

Vikrant Rona Movie Review: Kichcha Sudeep And Anup Bhandari Work Up Some Magic

Vikrant Rona is what you get when a star implicitly trusts the director to do what the script demands. And, in this case, Kabzaa actor Kichcha Sudeep's faith in director Anup Bhandari shines on screen. It is so good to see a director utilising well, a star with a physique like Sudeep's and a face that can look as harsh as it can melt when singing a lullaby. Anup is known for beautifully fusing the apparently supernatural with a backstory or two, as we saw in his debut Rangi Taranga. Rangi Taranga (2015), but on steroids. The place of action again is Kamarottu, in scenic Dakshina Kannada, and Anup has, by now, perfected the art of making the trees and lakes and rivers that gently showcase beauty in the morning, speak a different language filled with horror at night. It takes courage to back a film where the hero makes his entry just at about the half hour mark. And, Sudeep does just that, allowing you to buy into the character of Inspector Vikrant Rona, the man newly appointed to take care of the station in Kamarottu, where children get kidnapped and where those who go missing are found hanging from trees with a letter on their person and a painted face. One just wonders why no one seems to be in a state of panic in a forest village where children have gone missing. Everything seems too conveniently placed, everyone seems to be the victim, and everyone seems to be the culprit. Amid these intra-family tangles and a swashbuckling inspector who's a loving father too, the truth...

'Vikrant Rona' Review: A Muddled Narrative That Rides High On Adrenaline

The 2022, Sudeep starer, “Vikrant Rona,” once again makes you ponder whether there is a widespread acceptability for the genre till now, or there still exists some dysphoria about it in the masses. The Indian film industry has always been a bit skeptical about entering the realm of adventure and fantasy thrillers, as they are unsure about its general acceptability. Even when it comes to making a perfect potboiler, the first go-to genre for any filmmaker is either a romantic drama or a comedy. The 2015 magnum opus, “Bahubali,” probably broke that stigma, and instilled a belief in the filmmakers that even a fantasy adventure can strike a chord with the audience if backed up by a strong narrative. The Kannada industry then went on to excavate the Kolar Mines, in the hope of finding something authentic, and they, too, struck gold. “ In 2016, “Mohanjodaro,” directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar, failed miserably, and the 2017 adventure comedy, “Jagga Jasoos,” joined the club too, but there was a bleak hope as the latter had its intent in the right place. In my personal opinion, the film had a great deal of potential, but due to some unfortunate executional blunders, it tanked, and once again, the thought of acceptability and cost-effectiveness loomed over us, after the consecutive failures. In 2018, a film made its way to the big screen that added an extremely authentic tinge of horror to the adventure/fantasy genre. “Tumbbad” opened the floodgates of possibilities. It made us realize...
