HARIDWAR: The driver of former BJP leader Vinod Arya -- who is also the father of Pulkit Arya, the main accused in the Ankita Bhandari murder case -- has allegedly given conflicting statements to the court and the police in the sexual assault and attempt to murder case against Vinod. Haridwar police said that the statement given by the victim before the court under section 164 of CrPC is "different from his written complaint". However, police are still examining both statements to take further action against the accused as per law. Vinod was booked on December 13, following which he was detained but was later released after the victim recorded his statement in court. In his written complaint to the police, the driver had alleged that Vinod Arya touched him inappropriately and tried to sodomise him on December 2 at the former minister's residence during the body massage. Following the incident, the driver returned to his home district, where Arya's men allegedly tried to kill him. Then Vinod called the driver to his house to "settle" the dispute but allegedly thrashed him instead. Police detained Arya after registering the case.
