Cops Trace 13 Youths Who Took Part In Bike Racing At Vizhinjam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vizhinjam police have served notices to 13 youngsters of All of them who received notices were aged between 20 and 23 years. The police are also planning to suspend their licences and to seize vehicles, which were altered by violating the Motor Vehicle rules. The police will register a case against all of them under Section 279 of the IPC for rash driving on public roads. The accused shall be punished with imprisonment, which may extend up to six months or with fine of Rs 1,000 or with both. “There is no separate section available for registering cases against the bike racers as they can only be charged for rash driving. The motor vehicles department (MVD) will also be alerted for examining their vehicle. If found altered, they will be fined for it too. Hence, more stricter measures like suspending the licence will have to be considered to put an end to this racing,” said Vizhinjam police station house officer Prajeesh Sasi. The police confirmed their presence in the bike racing after verifying the tower locations of their mobile numbers on that day. After the death of the youths, the police collected the mobile numbers of all the bike racers and examined locations of their mobile numbers. Police also examined their social media pages and collected videos and pictures posted there. The dead have been identified as Sarath, a native of Chowara and Muhammad Firoz, a native of Nettayam, Vattiyoorkavu. The accident took place at around 5:30 pm near Kalluvettankuzhi, Vizhinjam. The youths, who sustained severe injuries, were soon rushed to the hospital, but could not be saved. Both of their bodies have been kept at Vizhinjam Hospital.
