5 Shot, 2 Confirmed Dead in Northwest Washington, DC – NBC4 Washington

Five men were shot — two fatally — in Washington, D.C., Wednesday afternoon, police said. The shooting was reported at the corner of O Street NW and North Capitol Street, just north of New York Avenue in the Truxton Circle neighborhood. D.C. police officers and D.C. Fire & EMS were called to area for the report of several people shot. Units arrived shortly after 12:45 p.m. and found several people shot in the street. People who live and work in the area say the D.C. government needs to do more to make the neighborhood safer. News4's Paul Wagner reports. Executive Assistant Chief Ashan Benedict described the area as "an open-air drug market" that police routinely patrol. “Five people were shot today,” he said. “It’s unacceptable.” The shooting was reported at the corner of O Street NW and N. Capitol Street, just north of New York Avenue. According to police, the first call for help came in from three members of the D.C. fire department who happened to be on the block inspecting buildings. “They were doing inspections in area buildings,” Benedict said. “I don’t have the exact locations, but as they were coming out of one building, they came on to this block and basically walked into this situation.” The scene is on a busy block near homeless outreach program So Others Might Eat, Dunbar High School and at least two elementary schools. AP Eight people, including a 12-year-old girl, were injured in two separate back-to-back shootings Friday night in Washington, D.C., police said. No one died in the shootings, whichMetropolitan Police Department officials said are believed to be connected. At about 10 p.m. Friday, police responded to reports of shots fired on the city's southeast side, where officers found seven men with gunshot wounds, Assistant Chief of Patrol Services South Andre Wright "There was some chaos, obviously, because of the number of victims and the loved ones,"he said. Mass killing database: Report: Police then received a report of a shooting nearby,where they found a 12-year-old girl with"a gunshot wound to her lower extremities,"Wright said. The girl is in stable condition and her injury was not life-threatening, he added. Multiple shell casings were found at both scenes, Wright said. Wright asked for the public's help as investigators search for a black Sedan, or possibly a Mercedes, that witnesses say "drove through the block and indiscriminately fired upon individuals." Because of the proximity of the two scenes and the short time frame, Wright said the shootings are believed to be connected. Through an initial investigation, it was determined that a "small, black SUV" driving southbound on North Capital Street, turned right on O Street and stopped in front of a building. At least two suspects exited the car and started shooting with semi-automatic guns at people on the street, before driving away westbound on O Street.

A suspected gunman who injured four people when he “indiscriminately” The suspect, Raymond Spencer, 23, is alleged to have had 800 more unspent rounds and three more firearms, including two handguns, at his apartment in the city’s Van Ness neighborhood, Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee said at a public safety briefing. Spencer is alleged to have set up a hallway camera to monitor people approaching the unit, Contee said, adding that an appliance was wedged against the home’s front door to slow anyone trying to enter. Police had to ram the apartment’s front door to open it, Contee said. At a second apartment in Northern Virginia, police discovered parts for three more rifles that also belonged to Spencer, Contee said. While police characterized the shooting as not random, a motive is not known. Annapolis is roughly 30 miles east of Washington, D.C., on the Chesapeake Bay, and is Maryland's capital.
