Cyclone Biparjoy: IndiGo flight aborts landing at Mumbai, lands in Udaipur

An Indigo flight headed from Lucknow to Mumbai, made a hard landing in Udaipur after two failed attempts. The flight scheduled to land in Mumbai at 1.15 pm, hovered over the airport for about 30 minutes, before it was diverted to Udaipur. The flight was unable to land in Mumbai due to bad weather conditions in the wake of the cyclonic storm 'Biparjoy'. The flight landed in Udaipur at 3.30 pm. The harrowed passengers created a ruckus at the Udaipur airport and demanded that the pilot be changed. Eventually, the pilot was changed and the flight landed in Mumbai at 8 pm. A few passengers even took to Twitter and tweeted complaints while tagging Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Mumbai faced heavy rains and strong winds due to cyclone Biparjoy. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Thane and Mumbai in the wake of the cyclone. While the airlines blamed the weather for the diversion, the passengers said that two attempts to land in Mumbai were aborted. A spokesperson for Indigo said, “Due to bad weather, the pilot could not land in Mumbai and decided to go to Udaipur… After landing in Udaipur, he said he was fatigued and hence asked for crew replacement. This took some time and the flight left after 6 pm.” The cyclone is expected to make landfall near Jakhau port in Gujarat's Kutch district on June 15.
