Delhi weather: Rain likely tomorrow, air quality dips

NEW DELHI: With rain activity stalled in Delhi, the daytime temperature increased by about three degrees on Wednesday. However, there was no change in the minimum temperature. The weather department expects another spell of rain in two days. The maximum temperature at the city's base station, Safdarjung, was recorded at 28.7 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 14.1 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal. "The maximum and minimum temperatures on Thursday are likely to hover around 30 and 16 degrees Celsius, respectively. On Friday, however, the temperatures will drop and the city may experience cloudy sky along with thunderstorms accompanied with light rain and gusty winds up to 30-40kmph," said an official at India Meteorological Department. Meanwhile, the city's air quality deteriorated to the moderate category. The air quality index, on a scale of 0 to 500, was 164 as against 75 (satisfactory) a day earlier. According to pollution monitoring agencies, the air quality is unlikely to deteriorate in the next three days. "Moderate to high surface winds are likely to enhance dispersion and air quality. The overall air quality is likely to be within 'moderate' or 'upper end of satisfactory' for the next three days due to enhanced dispersion by surface wind speed as well as wash out by likely intermittent light rain spells," stated Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology in a statement.
