When air quality could improve and how long wildfire smoke could last

While patches of poor air quality hung across Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, eastern Virginia and the Delmarva Peninsula, the overall trend was improvement. Computer modeling indicates the smoke is largely dispersing. Washington, which awoke to visibility around 1.25 miles Thursday morning, had 10-mile visibility to start the day Friday. Beyond Friday afternoon, the low-pressure zone will be drifting to the north and weakening. This should allow smoke plumes to disperse somewhat as the steering flow from the north subsides. By Saturday, a greater westerly component to the wind should reduce the smoke in most areas. However, parts of western New York state may see a renewed filament of smoke drop out of Canada, although confidence is low.

Hazy Skies Through Tomorrow

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Today’s air quality has been on the decline since this morning. By this afternoon Madison was at an air quality index of 134, which is Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. This is all associated with another push of Canadian wildfire smoke into our area. For central and northern Wisconsin, an Air Quality Alert has been issued valid for all of our area. Tomorrow’s air quality could be as bad or worse. Looking Ahead... As we look toward the rest of the week and even next week, a blocking pattern is expected to be set up with a large area of high pressure sitting to our east. This will keep us mostly dry for the next 10 days and act as a buffer and a means of diverting any systems coming out of the plains. There will be a chance that when these systems try to make it through, we could see a small chance of precipitation. But for the most part we are expecting to stay drier than average through much of the rest of the month. This will continue to impact our drought situation, and likely to worsen it. As of today we are down 1.35″ for the month of June, and that’s on top of the deficit of 3+” we had at the end of May.

Define your core values today to weather the storms of tomorrow

Macro changes -- like a pandemic, shifting labor markets and rising interest rates -- are completely out of our control. Without a solid foundation, changing market conditions can sink a business. How does an organization maintain its footing in such an environment? What fundamental truths and bedrock principles can transcend market conditions? Perhaps no area has sparked more conversation on LinkedIn than remote and hybrid work. The top-performing post on remote work, "Elon Musk says remote workers are just pretending to work. Turns out he's (sorta) right" was shared 677,694 times. Over the last three years, the very nature of work has come into question. Opinions surrounding what is best for staff, management, clients and individual organizations can be polarizing. How does a business leader determine what is best for their company? Before the pandemic, we valued a work-life balance at Simon/Myers. Wednesdays and Fridays were often work-from-home days. When March 2020 hit, our infrastructure was already in place. Our team slid almost seamlessly into fully remote work. But our digital tools and existing processes were not the keys to success. We hire based on three core characteristics: Egoless collaboration, intellectual curiosity and the S/M trajectory. These traits are foundational to our culture. As such, the team continued working, knowing what was expected of them and had each other's back. In the next year, we expanded rapidly, growing by over 25%. We were fortunat...
