The design of the currency has always reflected traditional Bermuda landscapes, flora and fauna and it is this representation of unique Bermudian features that has made our currency of interest to dealers/numismatists both locally and overseas. The Notes and Coins of Bermuda throughout the years are also featured in the Authority’s Note and Coin Exhibit located at the Authority’s main premises – BMA House, 43 Victoria Street, Hamilton. This Exhibit is open from 9:00am – 4:00pm daily (Monday – Friday) and is ably supported by a Note Exhibit located at the Commissioner’s House, Bermuda Maritime Museum in Dockyard. The official currency of Bermuda is the Bermuda Dollar (BMD). BMD has been legal tender since 1970 and is pegged to the US Dollar (USD) on a 1:1 basis. Retailers accept both BMD and USD and change can be given in the currency of your choice depending on availability. BMD is not traded internationally meaning visitors must spend or convert their BMD before leaving, unless you intend to return. Bermuda Dollars can be found in the following denominations: Coins Paper 1¢ $2 5¢ $5 10¢ $10 25¢ $20 $1 $50 $100 Most retailers and services accept credit card, however your bank may charge a small exchange fee on each transaction. There are ATMs around the island that dispense BMD as well as USD ATMs at Bank of Bermuda locations where you will be charged ATM fees from your bank.
