Dhanteras kicks off the five-day-long Diwali festivities. It usually coincides with the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha and falls in the month of Ashvini, according to the Hindu calendar. This year, the Dhanteras puja muhurat will be observed between 07:00 pm and 08:17 pm on October 22, while the festival will be celebrated on October 23. The word Dhanteras is divided into two words - 'Dhan', which stands for wealth, and 'teras' which signifies the thirteenth day. On this day, people buy brass, silver and gold objects as it is regarded as one of the most auspicious and ideal days to purchase expensive products.
