Meet the ministers in Kerala’s new Cabinet

A 21-member Left Democratic Front (LDF) ministry, headed by Pinarayi Vijayan, took oath at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. At the grand ceremony organised to mark the historic return of an incumbent government after a span of 40 years, attendance was limited to 500 persons in view of the Covid-19 protocols. In the new cabinet, the CPI(M) have 12 ministers, CPI four ministers and one each from Kerala Congress (M), Indian National League (INL), Democratic Kerala Congress (DKC), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Janata Dal (S) (JDS). Kerala govt to tie up with Finland in school, higher education sector

By Express News Service THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government is all set to tie up with Finland in the fields of general education and higher education. Initial collaborations will be among research institutes, teacher exchange training programmes, early childhood basic education, technology- based education, science and math learning, and assessment of learning at various levels. The decision was taken at a meeting with the Finnish team led by Dan Koivulaso, State Secretary of the Department of Education in Finland, and the highlevel team from Kerala, led by Chief Secretary V P Joy. The Kerala team held discussions at the invitation of Finland’s Educat i o n Minister Lee Andersen. The team explained the proposals for revising the school curriculum in Kerala. Finland has also expressed interest in adopting the best aspects of model education. Dan Koivulaso said India is seen as one of the key countries in cooperation in the field of education. A Finnish education expert has been deputed in Delhi to negotiate with the Union government in this regard. Kerala Education Minister Sivankutty to be replaced by Varkala MLA V Joy?

The Kerala Ministry is likely to see a big change soon as the Education Minister is most likely to be changed. Varkala town MLA V Joy is like to be the next Education Minister while the current minister would be exalted as the Secretary of the Thiruvananthapuram District CPI-M in Kerala, as stated in a report by IANS. Few sources say that during his official trip to the national capital, Sivankutty had called on the party's General Secretary Sitaram Yechuri and the issue was discussed. Further, it was stated that incumbent District Secretary Anavoor Nagappan was a surprise choice to the party's state secretariat when it was reconstituted and hence, he is moving out. This move is observed to be a step to avoid an embarrassment to Sivankutty and the Pinarayi Vijayan government as the Education Minister and other leaders have been asked to be present in the court. This was asked in connection with a case of vandalism against them on the floor of the Assembly in 2015. Hence, the leaders were asked to be present in the court on September 14. Also, it is observed that if the Education Minister is hauled by the court, it would become a huge setback to him as students look up to him.
