Nick Kyrgios: Australian contemplated suicide after Wimbledon loss

Kyrgios said he later got a sleeve tattoo on his right arm to cover up evidence of self-harm. "I was drinking, abusing drugs, I hated the kind of person I was," he said in the documentary Break Point, which covers his run to the 2022 final. "I lost at Wimbledon. I woke up and my dad was sitting on the bed, full-blown crying. That was the big wake-up call for me. "I was like, OK, I can't keep doing this. I ended up in a psych ward in London to figure out my problems." In February last year Kyrgios posted on Instagram about his mental health, saying he had had "suicidal thoughts" and "struggled to get out of bed" in 2019, pointing out self-harm marks on his arm in a photo from the Australian Open. "I was genuinely contemplating if I wanted to commit suicide," he says in the documentary, due to be released on Netflix later this month. "That pressure, having that 'all eyes on you' expectation, I couldn't deal with it. I hated the kind of person I was. "I lost my relationship with my family, pushed all my close friends away. "You could tell I was hurting. My whole arm was covered in scars. That's why I actually got my arm sleeve, to cover it all." The post on Instagram said he was "proud to say I've completely turned myself around" and that he doesn't "take one moment for granted". After reaching the final of Wimbledon last year, where he was beaten by 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, Kyrgios sustained a knee injury which resulted in him having surgery to repair a sm...

What time is Rafael Nadal playing today? Next match at Wimbledon 2022

After his Australian Open and French Open triumphs, Rafael Nadal continues his pursuit of a 2022 Grand Slam when Wimbledon starts on June 27. An injury-plagued 2021 has given way to a spectacular season so far for Nadal, his emphatic Roland-Garros final triumph over Casper Ruud following up his epic comeback win over Daniil Medvedev in the Melbourne decider. At 36, there are inevitably concerns about whetherMueller-Weiss Syndrome, the foot problem that kept Nadal out of the second half of 2021, will impede the all-time great again. Rafael Nadal Was the Immovable Object

Here are some body parts that Rafael Nadal has torn: his hamstrings, and his quadriceps. His left patellar tendon, abdomen, and left costal arch. His abdomen again. He’s dealt with tendinitis, arthritis, and repeated issues with both wrists. He has hip problems. Last year, at Indian Wells, he broke a rib midway through his semifinal match. He won that match, and then went out and played the final. “I could barely breathe but I decided to play the final because they told me it was probably a muscle spasm,” he said afterward. Normal stuff. After getting a second opinion and a correct diagnosis, Nadal took six weeks off. He returned midway through his beloved clay season, and lost uncharacteristically early at tournaments in Madrid and Rome. Then he went to Paris, creaky and torn and held together by athletic tape, and beat four top-10 players to win the French Open for the 14th time. Nadal paid dearly, it turned out, to win that 14th French Open. With the hopes of winning the Grand Slam still, somehow, intact after the first two majors of the 2022 season, he dragged himself to Wimbledon, white-knuckled his way to the semifinals and then did something nearly as un-Nadal-like as smashing a racket or declining to tinker with his water bottles: he withdrew. An abdominal tear. Again! Since then, Nadal’s ranking has dropped out of the top 10 for the first time since 2005. He didn’t have his best stuff at last year’s U.S. Open—he reached the fourth round and lost to an inspired Fra...

Who is the best men's tennis player ever? GOAT ranking for Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and others

The ongoing golden era in men's tennis means every Grand Slam event throws up questions of legacy and history. Roger Federer retired after one last Laver Cup doubles match with long-time rival Rafael Nadal, making the Swiss great the first of the ATP Tour's 'big three' to step away from the sport. Between them, Federer, Nadal and Novak Djokovic have redefined what tennis greatness means and the argument over who is the best of them all remains on shifting sands. But who is leading the way right now and how do they stack up against the greats of previous eras? The Sporting News ranks the best of the best in the men's game. 6. Jimmy Connors Connors enjoyed an incredible spell of dominance in the 1970s, although his imperious 1974 season remains one of tennis' great what-ifs. While compiling an astonishing 99-4 record over the calendar year, the American won all three Grand Slams he contested at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. But Connors' participation in the World Team Tennis league meant he was banned from competing at the French Open. When he was able to return to Roland-Garros in 1979, Connors began a run of four semifinals and three quarterfinals over the next seven years, leaving no doubt over his prowess on clay, which was also the surface for his triumphant 1974 campaign at the US Open. The longevity that saw a 39-year-old Connors reach the semifinals of the 1991 US Open on hard courts goes some way to explaining a record 109 titles on the ATP Tour. F...
