World Test Championship 2023 Final Date, Venue, Squad of India and Australia

What is the World Test Championship (WTC)? The World Test Championship (WTC) is a multi-team Test match competition that is played across two years to crown the best team in the longest format. It has a points system in place, with the teams fighting for the top 2 spots. The teams that collect the most number of points end up in the top 2 and compete in the final. Nine teams take part in the campaign – Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies. The conception of the World Test Championship dates back to 2013 when there were murmurs about scrapping the Champions Trophy and replacing it with WTC. The plans, however, did not materialise then but saw taking shape as 2019 approached. The inaugural edition of the tournament was played from 1 August 2019. The final was played between India and New Zealand from June 18-23, 2021, at Rose Bowl in Southampton, England. The match was affected by rain, leading to the cancellation of Day 4, and despite that, New Zealand beat India on the reserve day to lift the trophy. Now in its second stint, with all the matches completed, India have entered the finals again and will take in Australia at the Oval starting on June 7. Importance of the World Test Championship The World Test Championship is significant in many ways for not just Test cricket, but world cricket as a whole. • Primarily, it portrays Test cricket in all its glory.
