Traffic police sources admitted that choke points may see chaos again over the next few weeks as the new officers require time to understand the city and its traffic management. The state issued an order in this regard as part of the decision taken at a Jan 27 meeting presided over by Justice B Veerappa, executive chairman, Karnataka State Legal Services Authority. The meeting had resolved to request the transport department to take steps at the earliest and report compliance to ensure access to justice to all. During a Lok Adalat held in November last year, nearly 4.2 lakh traffic-challan cases were disposed of as pre-litigation cases and Rs 23 crore in penalties was collected. Around Rs 530 crore is due from traffic violators across the state, a senior IPS officer said. Of this, Rs 500 crore is pending from Bengaluru city.
