PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: The civic body will survey existing and new properties across its jurisdiction within the next two weeks in a bid to boost property tax revenue The collection of property tax revenue is one of the major sources of income for the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Although the revenue collection has increased in the last two years, the number of properties has remained constant. According to tax department head Nilesh Deshmukh, the PCMC has around 5.9 lakh registered properties under the tax net, but the actual number could be well beyond 7 lakh, which includes residential, commercial and industrial properties. "The structural changes in the existing properties will also be part of the survey which could fetch the civic body revised property tax. The tendering process for the survey is underway, and the survey will be done within the next two weeks. The department is aiming higher in terms of tax recovery. This fiscal, we have a target of Rs1,000 crore, of which we have managed to collect around Rs575 crore. If the new properties are brought into the tax net, the recovery amount could increase," Deshmukh said. Earlier, over 19,000 unassessed properties were identified by the PCMC property tax department in a survey conducted between November 2020 and April 2021.
