Xiaomi 13 Ultra Review: Phenomenal Photography

The expensive end of the smartphone market has gone a little crazy. More affordable hardware means There are a grand total of four cameras on the back of this smartphone, honed through a partnership with Leica. It's no one-trick pony either. You might primarily associate Chinese phones with value, but Xiaomi’s flagship boasts quality in every department and is ready to go toe-to-toe with the Photograph: Xiaomi High-end smartphones tend to be disappointingly conservative in design (aka boring), so the unusual look of Xiaomi’s flagship is refreshing. You can't miss the colossal circular camera module, but the surrounding golden chamfer is classy against the olive green of the faux leather back (it also comes in black or white). The textured finish is comfortable and enhances grip, which is just as well, because I almost dropped the phone a couple of times trying to get used to the weight—the upper half of the back bulges out, making the device top-heavy when you hold it. Corning’s The 6.73-inch AMOLED display is among the best I've laid eyes on. It boasts a top resolution of 3,200 x 1,440 pixels with a With a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor inside, backed by 12 GB of RAM, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is a smooth operator. Taps and swipes are slick and responsive, as is the in-display fingerprint sensor. It had no trouble running games like Real Racing 3 or Call of Duty: Mobile. The 13 Ultra also has the stamina for long gaming sessions, and it kept cool when I played Kingdom Rush Fronti...

Xiaomi 13 Ultra review: The ultimate camera phone of 2023

Xiaomi went all-out with the 13 Ultra, and the device feels more like a high-end camera that also has a few phone bits. The quad 50MP cameras at the back deliver the most versatile camera package of any phone available today, and all four lenses take magnificent photos and videos in any situation. Combine that with an exquisite design that grabs attention, the latest hardware, ultra-fast charging tech, clean software with minimal bloat, and all the extras you need in a flagship, and the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is a phone like no other. Pros • + Magnificent 50MP primary and three 50MP auxiliary cameras • + Stunning design with large camera island and leather back • + Stellar battery life with 90W wired and 50W wireless charging • + Latest internal hardware with no overheating issues • + Sublime 120Hz QHD+ AMOLED screen with plenty of customizability • + Less bloatware than previous generations • + IP68 dust and water resistance But with the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, we're getting a much better look at where this partnership is headed, and what it actually brings to the table. Without buying the lede too much, the 13 Ultra is not only Xiaomi's best phone to date, but is also the most versatile camera phone you can buy in 2023. The combination of quad 50MP cameras along with significant tweaks to image processing — no doubt facilitated by Leica — make the 13 Ultra a real powerhouse. Xiaomi 13 Global Release Date, Price and Specs

But we had to wait until 26 February 2023 for both phones to launch globally, alongside a more affordable 13 Lite that we hadn’t seen before. The latter went on sale immediately, but we had to wait until 14 March for the high-end models to go on sale. Then there was the top-spec Xiaomi 13 Ultra, which was officially unveiled globally on 18 April. It’s now available in Europe, having been released on 12 June, but with one key exception: the UK. However, you may wish import any of the phones which are unavailable in the US and UK. They should work with local SIM cards just fine, and European models have the full range of Google apps. How much does the Xiaomi 13 cost? Here’s the pricing for the Xiaomi 13 Series phones that have made it to Europe: Xiaomi It’s available in a few colours as standard in China (black, light green, light blue, grey and white), but only the black, green and white finishes have made it to the international model. It means there’s no option for the vegan leather found on the light blue version. The Xiaomi 13 is a little bigger than last year’s 12, with a 6.36in OLED display. This is otherwise similar to the previous phone though, with a 1080 x 2400 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and support for a range of HDR standards. Unsurprisingly, the phone is powered by the Xiaomi As for the cameras, you can see that the phone has a Leica-branded triple camera on the rear. The main shooter is a 50Mp, f/1.8 camera with OIS, and it’s joined by a 10Mp, 3x telephot...

Xiaomi 13 review: a sleek and sophisticated iPhone imitator

Beyond a marginal size increase, the phone’s display is largely unchanged, but Xiaomi’s knack for brightness and vivid colors is here delivered in a much sleeker, almost iPhone-like body, which lands the Xiaomi 13 in the ‘handsome’ camp of today’s best Android phones. Granted, the Xiaomi 13 offers almost no originality on the design front beyond its Leica-branded camera setup (more on this below), but if, like me, you’re a sucker for Apple’s straight-sided aesthetic, then this phone’s unashamed resemblance to the best iPhones is a positive rather than a negative. The Xiaomi 13’s impressive speeds are made possible by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset – similar to the processor you’ll find powering Samsung’s newly-released Samsung Galaxy S23 line – and the device is offered in two memory variations: 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, paired with 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage (though, if you’re in the UK, you’re looking at the 8GB version only). The Xiaomi 13 (left) launched alongside the Xiaomi 13 Pro (right) at MWC 2023 (Image credit: Future | Alex Walker-Todd) On paper, the biggest difference between the Xiaomi 13 and its predecessor is the former’s Leica-branded camera array. Comprising a 50MP f/1.8 main shooter with OIS (optical image stabilization), a 10MP f/2.0 telephoto camera with 3.2x optical zoom, and a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide sensor, the Xiaomi 13’s camera setup makes the phone a much more versatile beast for photographers; primarily because Xiaomi’s Leica partnership allow...

Polished flat-edge design Comfortable grip The elegant rounded corners of the body and measured lines of the camera adapter create a simplistic sense of aestheticism. The vertical metal frame further adds to its elegance and stylishness. The slightly curved back cover makes a soft complement to the sharpness of the body. The 71.5mm ultra-slim body can be easily held in one palm. When you look back at the HDR photos by Xiaomi 13, you'll see a wide range of colours on this professional display, from deep darkness to bright whiteness. The dark areas are full of finer details, ensuring a smooth transition between areas with different brightness and presenting to you all the true details. At least U.K. users are able to easily track down the Xiaomi 13. Xiaomi 13 review: Design One of the most striking aspects of the Xiaomi 13 is how the phone looks. In particular, its new Flora Green color really catches the eye. (Black and white color options are also available.) The phone's aluminum sides and rounded corners remind me of the iPhone, a strong source of inspiration. The look is helped by impressively slim bezels of just 1.63mm and flat edges. (Image credit: Future) Xiaomi’s 6.3-inch display is noticeably smaller than the OnePlus 11’s 6.7-inch panel but then so is the phone itself. The Xiaomi 13 measures 152.8 x 71.5 x 78.98 mm, so it's shorter and thinner than its rival. The compact size and flat design ...
