The life lessons commencement speakers have given this year’s graduates

Geoff Bennett: It is graduation season, and that means politicians, actors, and even someone from the "NewsHour" you might recognize are imparting sage advice and encouragement to college graduates around the country. Here are some of the life lessons this year's commencement speakers passed on to 2023 graduates Joe Biden, President of the United States: A few classes once in every several generations enters at a point in our history where it actually has a chance to change the trajectory of the country. You face that inflection point today, and I know you will meet the moment. I just think about the many ways you already have. Patton Oswalt, Comedian and Actor: Everything extraordinary in my life came from the wandering. And that's not to say I didn't work hard and that you shouldn't work hard, but don't work hard to acquire things. Work hard, so that you can buy yourself the time to wander easy. Use whatever skills you have to carve out days of randomness and adventure. • Ketanji Brown Jackson, U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice: When you find yourself in unfamiliar situations, taking on new responsibilities, perhaps under challenging circumstances, find a way to do that thing outside of the law that grounds you, whether it's ultimate Frisbee or painting or going to the theater. Oksana Markarova, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States: Love is always about taking action, not just words. Love is always about support and help. Never ask yourself, shall I help? Ask you...

Hello aspirant, Your passing year will be 2020 because you have appeared in degree exams and got the marks sheet on 31 st December. But exams were conducted in 2020 for you. Your Graduation year would be academic year 2019 to 2020 (final year of degree). After getting marks sheet of final semester it takes some time to get Degree completion certificate and issue date was a bit late in your case that's why they issued in February, 2022 might be because of the Covid Pandemic scenerio. On the whole, your passing year would be 2020 or as per mentioned while you joined in the degree. I hope this information was helpful to you. All The Best!!

Closed 6 years ago. I've read that there is a difference between the date that a higher degree committee approves a student for graduation and the actual date of graduation. The first being the date that a student becomes a graduand and the second being the date that a student becomes a graduate. These two dates could be far apart. My question is which of these two dates should be shown next to a degree on a CV or resume? Obviously I would like it to be the first, but that would lead to a discrepancy between the date on the resume and the date on the certificate. Someone suggested I could show both the completion and graduation date on my CV. Usually the date of graduation is stated explicitly on the certificate (which is determined as Dirk writes below). This is the one you have to list on the CV as "date of graduation". Of course, you are free to list others (as well or instead), as long as you make it perfectly clear what date you refer to. Thus you can write "date of thesis defense: YYYY-MM-DD" or even "date of thesis submission: YYYY-MM-DD". Caveat: If you don't list a date of graduation, the default assumption will be that you haven't in fact graduated yet. Usually the graduation date is the date on which the last accomplishment needed for graduation was completed. This could be a thesis defense but could also be something else. For example in some Master and Bachelor programs I know one may have a "final" presentation prior to handing in the thesis. So the graduatio...

At that time Latin was the language of scholars. A universitas was a guild of masters (such as MAs) with licence to teach. "Degree" and "graduate" come from gradus, meaning "step". The first step was admission to a bachelor's degree. The second step was the masters step, giving the graduate admission to the universitas and license to teach. Typical dress for graduation is gown and hood, or hats adapted from the daily dress of university staff in the Middle Ages, which was in turn based on the attire worn by medieval clergy. The tradition of wearing graduation hats in Sweden has been in place since the mid-eighteenth century. The cap is typically a white sailor hat with a black or dark blue band around it, a crown motif, and a black peak at the front. The graduation hat tradition was initially adopted by students at Ceremony [ ] Usually the ceremony and name apply to In a graduation ceremony at the college and university level, the presiding officer or another authorized person formally confers degrees upon can...
