This Epiphone Electar Zephyr Ampis brought to you by BCR Music & Sound, Central PA’s premier guitar, amplifier, & pedal dealer! A piece of history re-vitalized! This incredibly cool vintage amplifier has recently been serviced and sounds absolutely killer! The same style of amp known to have been used by Django Reinhardt, slick amplifier served countless jazz musicians in the mid-20th century. Converted to use a modern grounded power supply and outfitted with a fresh Jensen Special Design 12" speaker that will keep this amp sounding sweet & smooth for many more years to come! This amplifier is in Very Good condition. The back panel of the amplifier is not present, and some extra screws were carefully put through the top of the cabinet (see photos) to install a replacement transformer, all professionally installed. Pots work great, all 3 inputs are functioning, and boy does this baby sing! Service Details: 1. Replaced missing field coil speaker (Jensen P12R 8ohm) 2. Replaced 14F7 tube (NOS 7F7) & built new new heater circuit for said tube 3. Isolated from mains power, installed grounded power cord 4. Eliminated ballast tube 5. I’ve been on the lookout for a “big bottle” octal amp. I play in a big band and while my little tweed champ gets me the right sound in a small room at rehearsal, I realized it’s underpowered for any gig. The Epi Zephyr was one of the models I was looking for (along with bigger tweeds and old Gibson amps, or clones) and this one popped up in Italy at a reasonable price. The seller was a knowledgeable and very, very nice chap, so I took the plunge. Got it today and barely had the time to unbox, check functioning, take some pics and play it a little. The sound is EXACTLY what I was looking for. And the amp looks beautiful, is not too heavy, and is very quiet. So I’m already quite a bit in love … and I haven’t tried it yet with a strat or tele! I am not 100% sure that it has enough volume for my (amateur) big band gigs – which is what I bought it for in the first place. The opportunity to test will come very soon. In case I'm still underpowered, I’ll have to consider alternatives: (a) send it back with a broken heart (seller – who did I mention is a VERY nice chap? – agreed that “if not fit for your uses I’ll take it back”); (b) consider some very careful and respectful mods such as changing tubes or swapping the original FC speaker (I’m off to tech tomorrow for a general run-over and to discuss this); (c) just accept that on some occasions at least, it needs to be mic’d.
