Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-backed budget carrier Akasa Air announced on Friday that it would launch its maiden commercial flight on August 7. The airline will fly from Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Kochi with two Boeing 737 Max aircraft to begin with, and is expected to add more routes as it inducts more capacity. In the inaugural phase of its network development, Akasa Air will launch its operations by offering 28 weekly flights between Mumbai and Ahmedabad starting August 7. Following this, from August 13, the airline will start operating an additional 28 weekly flights between Bengaluru and Kochi. All flights are open for sale with immediate effect. The airline has also unveiled a menu for onboard meals and snacks that will be available for pre-booking and onboard purchase. What are Akasa Air’s future plans? Earlier this month, Akasa Air received the air operator’s certificate (AOC) from the DGCA, which enabled it to launch commercial operations. The airline has ordered 72 Boeing 737 Max planes, and expects to induct 18 aircraft this year. When flying with Akasa Air you are entitled to 1 carry-on up to 7kg / 15lbs, completely free of charge. All carry-on items are subjected to airport security checks, all passengers should make sure that no prohibited items are stored in the baggage including any fluid exceeding 100ml. All carry-on items must fit in the overhead lockers and under the seat. The total weight of the carry-on baggage must not exceed the permitted limit. On domestic flights with India, you're allowed to bring a piece of standard checked baggage of up to 15kg / 33lbs. Any additional checked baggage can be pre-booked online. Please note that you can only bring 2 pieces of extra baggage at a charge of INR 900 per piece. All checked baggage must weigh less than 32kg and fit within the permitted dimensions to be allowed to be transported as checked baggage. Additional fees would be added to any excess weight on the checked baggage and for oversize items. Excess baggage should be added to the booking before arriving at the airport as buying excess baggage in advance is often cheaper. This excess baggage can be added during the booking process. When flying with Akasa Air you can check-in online any time from 48 hours up to 1 hour before your flight departure time.
