Video from Univision shows a semi-trailer with a flatbed flipped on its side. Military tanks that were on the flatbed appeared to roll over on the ground. Both north and southbound lanes of U.S. 54 from mile marker 5, north of the Texas line, to mile marker 30 are closed Friday due to a crash, according to the New Mexico Department of Transportation. RECOMMENDED: NMDOT said this will be an extended closure and to seek an alternate route. New Mexico State Police assisted the military with the incident and the military took over the scene. RECOMMENDED: The call came in around 12:11 p.m. A wind advisory was issued by the National Weather Service for southern New Mexico including Dona Ana County. It is unclear if wind played a factor in the wreck. We have reached out to learn more about what caused the accident and are waiting to hear back.

AMBERG, Germany — One U.S. soldier was airlifted to a hospital and six others were injured Monday following a crash involving two tactical vehicles near Amberg, Army officials said. The collision occurred shortly before 11 a.m. on the eastbound A6 highway between the Sulzbach-Rosenberg and Amberg-West junctions in Bavaria. “As of now, there are no life-threatening injuries to any of the individuals,” said Army Brig. Gen. Maurice Barnett, the head of the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command. Six soldiers were taken by ambulance to hospitals, said Kate Necaise, a spokeswoman for U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach. Four others were taken to the Grafenwoehr Army Health Clinic for evaluation. Several of the injured soldiers were later released from the hospital while others remained under observation, Necaise said Wednesday. This story has been A soldier who was seriously injured when two U.S. military trucks carrying weapons collided on a German autobahn last week is recovering at an Army hospital, service officials said Tuesday. The soldier was The driver of the third truck misjudged the distance while changing lanes and struck the truck in front of it, Aalen city police said at the time. The cab of the merging truck was torn off by the impact and the vehicle caught fire, according to a police statement Friday. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, police said. The passenger in the third truck was airlifted to University Hospital Wuerzberg. That soldier has been transferred to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center for further treatment and is recovering well, 21st Theater Sustainment Command spokesman Maj. Vonnie Wright said Tuesday. The other three injured soldiers were released from the Landstuhl hospital over the weekend, Wright said. The accident remains under investigation and damage assessments were not yet available, the command said. The trucks were carrying large amounts of missiles and munitions, but the danger was limited because no detonators were attached, according to police. The weapons were transferred to other trucks and weren’t damaged, the Army said.

Army transport wreck on US54, tracked vehicle in median

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Traffic on US54 near Orogrande was backed up for miles in both directions as a U.S. Army transport rolled over, dumping the tracked vehicle it was transporting into the median. The wreck happened around 3 p.m. as an Army convoy was northbound on US54, six miles south of Orogrande. For an as-of-yet unknown reason, the HEMTT A4 transport truck and trailer carrying the vehicle rolled over, with the tracked vehicle landing upside down in the median. Footage shared via social media showed soldiers standing around the upside down vehicle, as traffic on both sides of US54 slowed to a crawl. Officials have closed US54 in both directions until further notice. There is no word of any injuries, or how long it will take to clear the wreck site. KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — A U.S. soldier was airlifted to a hospital and three others were injured Thursday after two Army trucks carrying weapons collided on a major autobahn near Kirchberg an der Jagst in Germany. The soldiers were transporting tons of missiles and munitions in a five-vehicle convoy of M915A5 tractor-trailers at about 3 p.m., when the driver of the third vehicle misjudged the distance while changing lanes, Aalen city police said Friday. The cab then collided with the left rear corner of the truck in front of it, police said. The cab of the merging truck was torn off by the impact and the vehicle caught fire, according to a police statement Friday. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, police said. “The driver and passenger of the truck that caused the accident were seriously injured in the accident. Those in the vehicle they hit suffered slight injuries,” Aalen police spokesman Bernd Maerkle told Stars and Stripes on Friday. The passenger in the third truck was evacuated by helicopter to University Hospital Wurzburg and is expected to be transferred to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center for further care, police said Friday.
