Australia has dominated recently, finishing in the top position for every Commonwealth Games since 1990, except for 2014. Of the 22 Games that have been held so far (including 2022), Australia has finished on the top 14 times. Next best is England with seven. The only other country to finish on top of the medal tally is Canada, in 1978 when they hosted the event in Edmonton. See the final medal tally for The limited success of the smaller nations is a source of national pride, and gives them a feeling of being part of the greater Commonwealth group.
