By Arvind Ojha: A bus driver has been booked after a CCTV video showed him running his bus over a person in Delhi's Majnu Ka Tila area, the police said on Tuesday. The incident took place on Saturday last week, June 3. The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Dhanveer Singh, who worked at a canteen. After ramming into the man who was crossing the road, the bus driver drove off from the spot. The injured man was rushed to Shushruta Trauma Centre in Delhi’s Civil Lines where doctors declared him dead. There were no eyewitnesses to the incident. ALSO READ | In CCTV footage, it was found that after hitting the man, the driver slowed down the bus for a moment and then he suddenly sped up the bus and ran over the victim, fleeing from the spot. The accused has been identified as Firoz Khan, a resident of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh. The accused told the police that on Saturday, he had begun the bus journey from Uttarakhand and was on his way to Jagatpur in Wazirabad after he had dropped passengers at ISBT Kashmere Gate in Delhi. He said, when he was taking a turn towards Outer Ring Road near IP College Red Light, his bus hit the victim.

A 20-year-old woman was killed in Delhi after her scooter was hit by a car, and she was dragged by the vehicle for almost 4 km — from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala — in the early hours of Sunday. Police said the body was found almost an hour later. Police said the woman, Anjali Singh, was an event organiser and returning from work at the time. According to the police, there were five men in the car, who have been arrested. Following the incident, the accused allegedly removed the woman’s body from under the vehicle and fled the spot, the police said. The five men have been identified as Deepak Khanna (26), who drives a Gramin Sewa auto; Amit Khanna (25), who works for a nationalised bank in Uttam Nagar; Krishan (27), who worked at the Spanish Culture Centre in Connaught Place; Mithun (26), a hairdresser at a salon; and, Manoj Mittal (27), a ration dealer in Sultanpuri. They have been booked for rash driving and causing death by negligence. Police are probing whether the accused knew the victim was being dragged but didn’t stop to help her. DCP (Outer DCP Singh said: “The car was traced and its occupants were located. They said the car met with an accident in the Sultanpuri area. The SHO of the area had also noticed a scooter that had been in an accident and this information was lodged at the police station at 3.53 am. The scooter belonged to the woman.
